What’s a birthday without a special meal and a cake? Treat the RPR to a special something for its 8th birthday!

To enter:
In this contest, you must bake or cook something. Post pictures or the recipe -- bonus points for both! Please explain in your post why you chose the meal, and how it relates to the theme.

Your entry must somehow be themed to fit one of these categories:
  • The RP Repository
  • Fantasy
  • Science Fiction
  • Science, Gaming or other Nerdly Pursuits

A cake with an RPR slogan in icing? Yes please. Your recreation of the “coney stew” that Samwise Gamgee prepared for Frodo while they were on the long path to Moria? Absolutely. Rock candy you somehow crafted into perfect d20s? Genius!

You cannot enter pictures of food other people created, nor post copyrighted recipes; ie something you got out of a cookbook or magazine. Make sure it’s truly your culinary creation.

You may use molds and other special tools, so long as they are in support of a larger effort, not just something you purchased and submitted. For example, if you were to simply submit a picture of a chocolate millennium falcon you made by pouring white chocolate into a purchased mold, you would be disqualified. If on the other hand you used the resultant chocolate spaceship as part of an asteroid-field battle themed scene cake, that would be okay.

Prizes:
The first place winner will get to pick any one of these prizes. Then second place picks from the remaining prizes, then third, etc.

Deadline:
Get all your entries in by May 17th.
Here's mine!

This is for the zombies who are so shriveled up and can't even go into the sunlight! It's a dish of their favorite things they love and this dish is called "Help me, I'm dying." It's not a really good name but I think it'll do good! :) this meal is for the science fiction category.

A bit shy about being the first, but here goes!

(: 3= Let's make some walrus cakes! (: 3=

(Cupcakes/muffins look the cutest, but you can decorate anything you want. Cookies, choc ice cream, your own face, the possibilities are endless.)

I tend to wing my cake mix, or buy premixed and add my own twists to it, so just choose your favorite recipe as the base! Here's some cheap things I substitute/add to my cake mixes for inspiration though:

Magic ingredients

Instant coffee/chocolate powder
Coconut butter (slightly melted) instead of regular butter
Half molasses/half caster sugar mix for a richer taste
Applesauce instead of egg

Frosting and decorations

50g peanut butter (softened)
50g coconut butter (softened)
200g icing sugar
1 tbsp honey
2 tsp milk/coconut milk/rum >.>

Red, yellow, white, blue, black icing pens
White ready roll icing
Silver sugar balls
Milk/dark chocolate buttons
Milk/dark chocolate drops

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Icing guide

Add the coconut butter, peanut butter, milk and honey into a bowl, and blend with a electric whisk (or fold it all in with a silicon knife and get swole arms) until smooth. Then add the icing powder in slooowly. If it turns out too thick/runny for you, just add more milk/icing sugar a tsp a time. Buttercream is real hard to mess up, you got this.

Try to resist eating all the frosting while you wait for those muffins to cool down. Now for the decorating:

CTnOB8O.jpg
(I forgot the icing here. So organised.)

Roll out a fairly thin (3mm or so) sheet of icing onto baking paper (or foil) and cut the shapes out with a sharp knife.

Peel away the excess then smooth the edges of the shapes with a wet fingertip if you want, and put into freezer until solid.

a8CXx2x.jpg

You can take this time to ice the cupcakes, making sure the frosting's at least 1cm thick so you can push all the decorations into it.

Now stick the buttons and chips on. Use an icing pen/melted chocolate as glue for the nose so it sticks firmly down.

Uv4QjLE.jpg

Add silver balls, and push the tusks gently underneath the cheek buttons, then stick the rest on! Colour in the shapes with icing pens - a zigzag motion works best.

(If anyone gives this a go, I'd love to see!)

Rat, those cupcakes are adorable! Very fancy, much orp.

<3 Cheers Dragonfire!

Anyone else thinking of cooking something up? :) It doesn't have to include a recipe, only pics, and it can be no-bake, or even a drink.
Rat, that is fabulous!!

Are drink concoctions allowed too? I'm planning to hopefully whip something up but I need to go get supplies. In the meantime, though, I had a great drink idea :D
Dragonfire Moderator

I am definitely planning on doing something, don't you worry. ;) It's just been a bit of a busy couple of weeks for Dragonfires!

Celestina - Drinks have been submitted in the past (and possibly have even won prizes, IIRC?)! I don't see why they wouldn't be allowed.
Ilmarinen Moderator

I submitted hippocras one year, which is a spiced red wine with honey :D
Awesome, thanks guys!
I give you...

The Pirate Corsair's Concoction
1 can of sprite
Coconut Rum (quantity varies depending on desired amount of alcohol)
2-3 drops red dye (or blue, or green)
Lemon (or orange) slice on the rim

After all, sea-faring pirates have to get their citrus! And what's a pirate without coconuts and rum? ;)
Feeling hungry or even starved? Want something to eat that will fill you up with just a single bite? Well, look no further than...

Elven Lembas Bread!!

Ingredients:
2 1/2 Cups of Flour
1 Tablespoon of Baking Powder
1/4 Teaspoon of Salt
8 Tablespoons (1 Stick) of Cold Butter
1/3 Cup of Brown Sugar
1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon of Honey
2/3 Cup of Milk (add more if necessary)
1/2 Teaspoon of Vanilla

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celcius).
2. Mix flour, baking powder and salt into a large bowl.
3. Add cold butter and mix with a fork or pastry cutter until mixture is made up of fine granules.
4. Add the sugar and cinnamon and mix them thoroughly into the mixture.
5. Add the honey, milk and vanilla and stir them in with a fork until a nice, thick dough forms.
6. Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch in thickness.
7. Cut 3-inch squares and transfer the dough to a cookie sheet.
8. Criss-cross each square from corner to corner with a knife. (Do Not cut all of the way through the bread, just slightly so that it can be broken easily into triangular pieces after baking)
9. Bake for about 12 minutes or more (depending on the thickness of the bread) until it is set and lightly golden.
10. Wrap in some leaves from the Mallorn tree and pack them with you on your trip across middle earth!

HuLrKcd.jpg

I like my lembas bread pieces a liiiiittle thicker than what I specified in the recipe, but that's just because I like to take real big bites and even though one bite will fill you up, I've got a Hobbit's stomach and need way more than that!! This also goes great with a cup of tea or coffee!

I chose this recipe because I'm an avid lover of Lord of the Rings and as this place deals in fantasy and is full of amazing writers I figured it would be the perfect fit. :3 I hope you all enjoy, if you decide to make it!

In the world of Shadowrun, political unrest and destruction of the ecosystem has made coffee a very expensive luxury. Most people in their day-to-day lives drink a substitute called 'Soykaf'.

P5iAL1k.jpg
Ready your soy beans for roasting.

VKOhVRj.jpg
In 50 minutes at 180 degrees, the soybeans have taken on a nice dark brown colour. (They also smell really good)

jF9hC0j.jpg
Grind your beans.

QvLdN5E.jpg
Drip your coffee. Nerdy cup optional. (This process took WAY longer than normal coffee. It took me (no joke) about 10x as long, and I didn't even get a full cup.)

GpEQPR5.jpg
Do you take your soykaf black?

ApWUFdX.jpg
Or Soykappuccino?

I did taste it! To be honest - I was expecting it to be awful, but it was actually quite drinkable. It kind of has a nutty flavour.
rat

YES GOOD HELLO. So glad to see this thread come alive!

Celestina - Clever thought behind the lemon slice!
TickTockz - Ooh, I'd take this camping with me for sure. Cute mug!
Claine - Even if it tasted awful it'd just add to the authenticity, so it's a win/win. :P Definitely trying this out some time!
