Oh, oh, oh, it’s a lovely war.....

The First World War was the most destructive conflict in the world up to that point. 10 million military personel were killed, as well as over 6 million civilians, the conflict being fought on several fronts all over the world.
This roleplay will take place on the Western Front, the most popular (and best) of them all. You will be playing from the perspective of a French soldier defending his homeland from the Prussian menace. Your squad will consist of 8 soldiers, and will follow a basic hierarchy; Sergeant at the top, then Corporals, then privates. This RP won’t be too combat-intensive, most of the combat you will see will be in huge pushes and offenses made by the Germans at specific intervals. The enemy will use things like mustard gas and artillery barrages in and in between these battles, and snipers will be a constant danger. There isn’t no safety net; if you die, you die. Now get out there, young man! Make your country proud!

You will be assigned different roles and weapons based on what we need at the time. A new character is not required, but it may be better to create a bit of a blank-slate, as you will be starting out as inexperienced rookies.

High ranks will be given on a first come first serve basis. Something I did not mention was that there will be brief periods of “Leave time” that will occur in the RP, where our jaded squad can enjoy the soft comforts of civilian life... At least, for a little while.

Your uniform will be the standard blue uniform and kepi hat for French officers in this time period (I believe the picture I’ve linked is late-war). You will have an standard issue officer’s saber, as well as a Ruby Pistol.

In your squad you will have a machine gunner, two riflemen to assist the gunner, two corporals who will be your second in command, and a fire team of 2-3 additional riflemen. You will be in charge of them. If they do wrong, you discipline them. If they panic, you rally them. If they die, it’s on you.

You of course can change your weapons and equipment if you find something better in the game world.

You will be our light machine gunner—
armed with the pinnacle of French engineering, the Chauchat light machine gun, as well as the Ruby Pistol.

Your uniform will be a standard Adrian helmet, and blue trousers/overcoat. Your sergeant will be Sergeant Morvach, and you will be granted the rank of Corporal.

Of course, you can pick up different bits of equipment and change up your kit as you advance through the world.

And if you are dissatisfied with your position, just inform me.

Can I join? Hector is a french citizen so yeah.

Of course, but this RP won’t have too many fantasy or likewise elements; it’ll be historical for the most part.

If you do, you will most likely play as a machine gunner’s assistant (you carry the ammo, assist in reloading, operate the gun if he dies, cover his back, etc...)

The equipment for this particular role incorporates the standard Lebel rifle, the Rosalie bayonet, and the Ruby pistol.

((on a side note, Isaiah's an ageless time traveller who already had a career as a soldier in modern times. That ok? I'll not use his powers or future tech for this though canonically they'll still be present))

Preferably, you’d be in the French army, to match the other players, but since this RP isn’t based on a historical unit’s role in the war, I could definitely work it in. You wouldn’t be in charge of a squad of your own, though. Most of what you would do would probably be inspecting the trench, guardposts, the soldiers, things like that. And when the huns push, you could choose to be pulled back to the rear, or stand and defend with your comrades. Your uniform would look like this, you may be a high priority target for snipers, and you would be equipped with a saber and the Webley revolver.


Also, I like the time-traveller part. Maybe it can come into play sometime in the RP.

(The position of Sergeant has been taken in the squad, but a position for a Corporal is still available (it’s basically second in command, and you’d be in charge of a fire team of 2-3 riflemen)).
The Western Front is a nasty place, and a man bets know his equipment to keep in good health!

Your primary source of firepower will be the Lebel rifle. You will be adorned with the standard blue uniform and Adrian helmet, and you will have the Rosalie bayonet at your disposal for hand-to-hand scuffles.

Your sergeant is Sergeant Movarch, and you are hereby granted the rank of Corporal, therefore you will be given direct command of a fire team of two riflemen.

For the sake of clarity, this is the established hierarchy so far:

Brig. Gen. Lim (Inspects the men and defenses, orders charges and retreats)
Below him, Sergeant Movarch (Directly commands the men of the squad)
Below him, Corporal Winder (Chauchat MGunner) and Honore (Leader of the fireteam)
Below them,
PFC Bossuet (assists gunner) and two other plebs who haven’t arrived yet (fireteam of riflemen)

Plus the German sniper. (don’t stick you head over the trench willy-nilly)

It’s all negotiable, of course.

I’m thinking of beginning once we have one more person. If we don’t by tomorrow, I’ll just start off and leave the RP open.

Essentially, we’re gonna start in 1915, when the war was still young but in full swing. You will most likely be marched to the front lines, and the rp will begin there, followed by a push by the Germans, to make things exciting.
