So, me and my friend have been at this for months. We've been working on a scale magic system, which included scalable magics, damage/range of affect, and alignment. Our hope is to leave a comprehensive list, but to also limit GodModers who use the popular ex Machina "But...Meh Magics ".

So far we have 71 Pages of pure frustration and months that led to us circling. If any one is intrested in giving advice or even wanting to jump in to get a slice of this, by all means. I figure the more the marrier. I can possibly even Copy and paste what we have.I don't know....

Cheers
Well, if you're looking for some advice on how to have somewhat balanced magic systems, I can give a little thought about that. Have you guys considered having a magic system based off of one's own strength? Let's say we have a geomancer, using this path of thought, he can maybe separate boulder from a cliff face, but beyond making it, he has no control over it because it's too heavy. At this point he can only hope it rolls onto an enemy or two. He can also shape stone javelins from the earth, from there he can throw them at enemies. Let's also say he conjures up a sling bullet, he can "launch" it from his hand, however, it has the exact same effect if he were to just throw it. Same thing with a pyromancer and a fireball, forget about "shooting" it, you gotta throw that sucker now. Better hope it hits it's mark, or there's gonna be some rogue fires.

Using this system, it does not allow for "weak casters" to conjure strong spells or effects, because they would either be too heavy, or would overpower them too much to be able to use them, similar to how an average joe would try to effectively use a longbow. It forces casters to actually be strong and fit first to be able to use the higher end spells. Like say, conjuring up a bolt of lightning. Better be prepared for the sound-barrier breakage, or you, some of your allies, AND the enemy are going to get toppled over real quick. Not even taking into account how loud that would be either.

You get the gist, yes? Hoped that helped or something. Good luck with that.

A tip I have been taught for developing a magic system is to put a priority on two things: figuring out what the magic is mainly used for in-universe, and then using that information to create set limits for the magic to prevent the said 'Meh, magic' excuses we're both annoyed by.

That was a bit vague, I know, but more information can be found in this guide(https://tinyurl.com/y8vnxkyw) and even if you don't find the guide useful you can always check out the site where it's from: You should try r/magicbuilding if you haven't already.
