Hey you! Yes you! We can't wait to meet you! :D

This is the RP repository's official OOC chat thread, where we all come to relax, chat, and make new friends in between all night gaming sessions.

To join this chat, just click that big button above this post that says "Launch chat."

You can transform any thread on the RPR into a real-time chat! However, we use this one for most of our non-specific OOC banter.

All the normal forum rules apply in this chat thread. And please, don't RP in this thread. We have IC forums for that.

This thread is cleaned out on the first of each month.

Yall ever dig out an ancient drive with your old art on it from like a decade ago, look at it, think it's crap, but still kinda like it and feel a bit sad that you can't draw like that anymore?

feel like I might've lost something along the way as I grew as an artist...

Yeah I'm always kind of surprised when I look at my old art! I put so much effort into rendering pieces! And I found an old comic from about 13 years ago, and while it isn't as good from a technical standpoint, it is very funny.
I think there's something intangible about art in general that does not translate well when technical analysis is applied to it...

I can sit here all night and stare at my old work, trying to figure out how to do that again, but I don't think I'd ever do it quite the same.
The person who made it's a stranger to me but I love what that person made, I guess.

There's nothing wrong with that. Art is linked so closely to who you are as a person, that it naturally changes as you do too :) It is something you can look back on with pride.
I also question often what "art skill" even is, when I do sometimes enjoy the things allegedly unskilled artists post.
I'm not sure it matters for any reason beyond our own personal desire to become more technically proficient.
The older I get, the more I appreciate seeing people just make what they like and doing it the best that they can.

I enjoy plenty of things drawn by beginner artists! I read a lot of comics just made by less technically skilled artists or with really weird premises that you can tell mean a lot to the creator. There's something very fun about people just having a good time and creating something they like :)

For me personally I've always been really frustrated when I can't draw something that I want to draw, so I've always wanted to improve my technical skills so the end result can more closely resemble what I imagine

Like I remember erasing through the paper as a child, because I couldn't draw facial features as I wanted them
Yeah... I did that too. One time I actually got really upset and cried.
