Hou Xin (played by WritingBat)

//ooc: Alright, let´s see how this goes - actually it was once a starter for a 1x1 RP on another page... which went to waste as the other RPer left without further notice... anyway - I wanted to throw it in here, perhaps finding someone interested to join in, either for a 1x1 or even as a possible group RP... or at the very least, if no-one is intrigued enough to join in it might at least server as a writing sample....- *shrugs*
Just perhaps a brief overview over the general setting and situation: It´s a basic High Fantasy Setting - with society mixed of different races (humans and non-humans) with magic around but not as a "common good" but limited to certain races or specially skilled/talented and trained humans.
We got three main players here, when it comes to countries (Kingdoms/Empires) - Two smaller ones - the Liang Empire which is Hou Xin´s homeland and a second Kingdom/Empire (possibly the home of the other RPer?), and a huge Empire in the North, lusting for more power and to expand territory. - In order to increase their strength in a possible and imminent war with the northern Skythe Empire the Liang Empire sends envoyes to their small neighbour to discuss a possible alliance - unaware of the fact that the Leader/King/Ruler over there is already corrupted and bribed by the North.... //

„This city is amazing!“
The enthusiasm resounding in the voice of the younger warrior riding next to him caused a broad smile to enter the even features of Hou Xin, General of the Imperial Guard and thus 1st Warrior of the honorable Liang Empire.
For a while his 2nd Lieutenant, assigned to his first task that lead him abroad went on describing their surroundings, commenting on whatever sparked his attention.

“Shang Jinag (General) Hou, I really wish you could see that!” -
Hou Xin by now had stopped counting how often he´d heard this very phrase during the past two weeks of their travels. A chuckle escaped the higher ranking and slightly older warrior´s lips while he shook his head a little.
“Shao Wei (2nd Lieutenant) Feng, I told you, there are more and other ways to enjoy these things …and as grateful I am for your descriptions, again I have to tell you that they do not help to reveal much for me.”
Here he shrugged slightly.
“So you have no memories of what it means to actually see then, Shang Jiang?”, again something between utter fascination and even a bit of horror was resounding within the words of his subordinate.
Hou Xin shook his head while his unfocused glance got lost somewhere above this horse´s twitching ears.
“Méiyou (no), not much….”
“How do you do it then…. Move around and fight like you do, I mean… like you could see… ” –

It was obvious that during their time they´d spend traveling together his Lieutenant had lost some of the shyness which almost choked him in the beginning, when he was chosen to ride at the side of the Empire´s First Warrior.
And though now and then the fascinated inquiries of his young brother in arms were a bit of a bother Hou Xin preferred it that way – a lot indeed.
Though being the head of the Imperial Guard and directly assigned to the Emperor without anyone to answer to between he never forgot where he came from and always felt closer to his soldiers no matter the rank than to any other high ranking official of the state. An attitude which won him the deepest respect, love and loyalty of his men.

“There are more ways to perceive the world than just with your eyes, Shao Wei Feng... It is hard to describe though… - I am sure my attempt to explain it would mean little to you… like when you to explain the concept of colors to me…”
Hou Xin shrugged, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere between them.
“So… you do have really no memories of such things like colors anymore?”
“They faded… and after almost 10 years there is not much left – other concepts took their place instead…”
“Do you miss it?”
“Méiyou – most of the time I don´t... not any more…” –
That was actually the truth. After spending so many years in the dark the feeling of loss and affliction he felt in the beginning was gone almost entirely. Only now and then, in very special and certain moments, mostly connected with memories of some past events close to his heart, they briefly flared up.
*

For a while they rode side by side in silence – Their destination was close now. After three weeks on the road the palace was less than two hours away.

About one day-travel behind them a carriage was carrying the honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Liang Empire, whom they were supposed to announce.

Up to now the whole traveling party had kept a low profile, for the purpose of not attracting too much attention to their endeavor. An endeavor supposed to secure freedom and peace for both countries and which surely was considered highly unpleasant by the warmongering northern Skythe Empire which could become their mutual opponent and threat to the free people of both countries.

However as the current leader here was a bit of a wild card when it came to alliances the decision was made to send an envoy without much ado – and up to now it had worked out find. … Little did the two Liang soldiers know that their presence was already detected and due to the already poisonous influence of the Scythe Empire considered an act of espionage.

This dangerous situation became obvious when suddenly a detachment of the local military approached – Nothing too unexpected or surprising in the beginning as they were two foreign soldiers on foreign land, to check them out and ask for their purpose here was all standard procedure, they would not have done it a different way if they´d met foreign soldiers on their land.
The fact that instead of being asked for their intention and the meaning of their presence they immediately were accused of trespassing and hostile intelligence actions took the two Liang Empire Guards by surprise.

“Who is your Commander? I want a word with him, immediately! – These accusations are ridiculous - we come in peace and with only the best intentions in mind.” Hou Xin demanded, the relaxed stance gone, his whole appearance radiating the high ranking and self-aware leader he was – while also making a point that he was utterly unimpressed by the number of men he and his Lieutenant were facing.
Latter became even more obvious when he turned towards the younger soldier under his command and ordered him to turn and give word about what was happening here back at the carriage they originally were supposed to announce – it was als an attempt to make sure that the elderly Minister was spared such a treatment.
He spoke their mothertongue Mandarin, hoping that this way the young soldier´s mission and the presence of the carriage with the high-value political target remained a secret.
While doing so he had placed his horse in the street in a way that it was basically impossible to get past him without running him or any innocent by-passer over, that way ensuring his Lieutenant at least a head start should someone try to pursue him.

Auren Corvelon Aldor (played anonymously)

((Interested. Would you accept a Dhampir Duelist? (Specifically, a Vetala-born Dhampir, and he's an Aldori Swordlord... I based him off of Pathfinders...) Please, though, I'm gonna be gone for this weekend, but I can reply Monday. Still, lemme know if this character concept is alright to play. The Character's name is Auren Corvelon Aldori.))

((sure - why would I not :D - and no rush regarding a reply - I know the meaning of busy RL myself so I´d never rush anyone for any reply at all. - However, would you like to RP openly here in the Forum with the chance of other joining in, or would you rather put that into messages for a 1x1 - I am open to both options - if you go for the latter, simply send the reply via messages and I´d be happy to follow suit.))

(Can she use magic? Plz?)
Hou Xin (played by WritingBat) Topic Starter

(( it´s Fantasy verse so why would she not be able to use magic? - My own character cannot actively use magic as he is human, however I tend to RP him in a way that he has the ability to "sense" magic-users.
As an elf, I suppose it´s not too uncommon to be able to utilize magic, right))
Lumist Uirolth Delia (played by Kungfu6453)

She looked around. Looking for Hou. If she could find him then just maybe she could strengthen her people. She she changed her look to show what powerful elf looked like.zt3RrJg.jpg She did not want to scare th3 Gaurds or want them to see who she really was.

((uhm... hopefully not comming across as a major prick here - but usually my writing style is somewhat between Mulit-Para to Novella and I´d appreciate it if my writing partner would be able/willing to do so, too? - Hope this won´t be a major issue though.))
Lumist Uirolth Delia (played by Kungfu6453)

No I can do that. I will do it on my next comment)

(I don’t mind. But question I made a new character how can I get her to meet your character? Maybe the ruler want your character to put her to death yet she ends up proving that the ruler does not have the right to kill her?” )

((Back. If Lumist would prefer, I would do a group RP. I always like more people in an RP. Makes it more interesting.

@Lumist. OOOH. inalienable rights. See if you can quote John Locke.))

Whaaat? You don't know your inalienable rights? Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness? Thomas Jefferson got these from John Locke.

(can we just rp?)
Auren Corvelon Aldor (played anonymously)

(Sure. Just so you know, Locke was way too optimistic about human nature. :))

Auren heard a commotion. Commotion always caught his interest. Commotion meant something was happening, and Auren particularly enjoyed plunging himself into the middle of such events.

He quickly weaved through the crowd. Not that he really needed to. The people around him gave him a wide berth whenever they saw him. They didn't want to anger this accursed dhampir who was quick to anger. In the few months he'd been here, he'd already been in no less than 15 duels, and won them all. This was excluding the brawls he immersed himself into, or even started.

Many of these duels started because people had insulted his sword style and heritage. It was required by the Aldori code to prove that his sword style was superior to all others. So far, it was. Some of the duels were started by different reasons... as well as all of the brawls. Many people could not understand why the city officials had allowed a half-breed vampire into the city itself, and so they took it upon themselves to persecute the vetala-born. Public sentiment was not in his favor. Whenever a crime happened, people were quick to look at him.

Auren could ignore this prejudice. But when people insulted his father, he took offense personally. Hence all of the fights. The guards knew Auren's reputation all too well. That's why, when they saw him, even when he was bounding towards the foreigners like a child, they reared back in slight trepidation.

Auren could see that the guards were accosting a little caravan. He could also see that one of the men outside of the carriage was blind. In Auren's eyes, this was an injustice. They had no right to accuse him of something he probably didn't do. So he decided to help them.

After all, isn't that what he was raised to do? To do good?

He managed to get himself between the guards and the caravan, and turned to face the guards, before asking a question that he felt needed to be answered: "Now, what is all of this ruckus for?"
Elune (played by Kungfu6453)

Elune noticed this and watched from a far. he had not earned her respect so she did not show it. people loved her and respected her. some loved and honored her some knew if they caused trouble she end whatever they where doing. nobody knew her true personality or anything about her. she was always ready for action. even in the face of death it self. she was on a roof watching the whole thing. mutters " dumb humans. why must they always cause problems?" she rolled her eyes.
Hou Xin (played by WritingBat) Topic Starter

Hou Xin´s demand caused a bit of a commotion amongst the guards who had stopped him and his Lieutenant – and with a little smirk hidden behind his mask of indifference he noticed rather content that the younger soldier got away, not at least thanks to the thickening crowd.
So the chances that the carriage of the Minister, which was about one day travel behind received a proper warning and could lay low or even go into hiding were well given.

As for him, he still stood his ground – waiting for his request to be answered. Yet before any official of his rank was able to show up as demanded an unexpected third party left the crowd and stepped between his horse and the group of guards who had stopped him in first place.

As far as he was able to sense, it was no human being either – what surprised him though was the rather brisk manner the other one showed, absolutely not showing any respect against the other officials.
Fearing that a behaviour like this would only lead to more problems for him and thus the planned diplomatic negotiations between their two Courts he tried to appease, addressing the stranger with a little, kind smile yet appeasing words. “It´s alright – this surely is all just a misunderstanding, nothing more. - I am General Hou Xin, 1st Warrior of the State of the honourable Liang Empire, and currently functioning as an envoy on behalf of our mighty Emperor. - Therefore I need to have a word whoever put out these false accusations.” Here he turned his attention back to the group of guards. “Well, I am still waiting… and I will not hand myself over on the basis of such nonsense”.
Elune (played by Kungfu6453)

Elune turned into her pre teen form.

She went to the general. She ran up and asked the Gaurds to let her through nicely as a priestess she need to do something healing some sick. They let her through. Nobody could tell she used a easy spell. She ran past the Gaurds and went to her target. Normally oracles or priestesses where allowed. So it was to easy. She even trained in the area of divine summoning. Training in a temple for a year or 2. She giggled as happy as can be yet hiding the that fact. Acting like a priestess on the outside.
Auren Corvelon Aldor (played anonymously)

Auren raised his eyebrows at the man's reassurance. Obviously, he didn't know the guards. They were lazy fools who didn't care what happened to people unless they were ordered to do so. At least, that was the impression Auren got from them whenever he dealt with them. Maybe it was because he was different.

Either way, he let the man have his wish. Even if he slightly deflated Auren's enthusiasm. Wilting slightly, and slightly embarrassed, he stepped back slightly. This man was nice. Far nicer than the other people in this town. Still, he kept his hand on his sword.

He then spied a little girl walking through a parted crowd of guards. He had no idea who she was- he wasn't interested in what happened inside this city. If it didn't catch his interest, he didn't look into it. Still, he could guess that she was important. Just exactly why, he didn't know.
