I keep seeing cosplay wigs with adorable little "wings" on the sides of the head. Here's an example:

How exactly do they get the wig to do that? Does the wig stay like that or is it kinda like false advertising? And most importantly, is it possible to do that with real hair? Because honestly, I would love to have hair wings!

(I want to get more into hair styling in general)
Basically wig is long and it weights the wig cap down, when they cut pieces at the side shorter, it's very noticeable and they stick out; this is possible for real hair, but it wouldn't stick out with real hair unless you used a hair gel or other styling product. The reason it sticks out so much with the wig is because it's not real hair. This coming from someone who has some very short layers similar to that on the sides and back of my head. They don't stick out like that though unless I chose to make them stick out like that.

It is possible that after a while the wig's little 'wings' would flatten eventually since they look like the same as the bangs but were just brushed and they probably used a bit of a styling product to create the style. With real hair you'd need to get it cut and then us maybe a curling iron and some hair gel. But you couldn't just get a haircut that will automatically do this.

All righty, here we go!

So, as a cosplayer myself, I have had to do these time and again, and not just with wigs, but my own hair as well. I'm assuming you mean hair wings like Lisa Rinna?

If so, it kind of depends on your hair, first off. I tend to struggle with doing it because mine is so thin. But, it's not impossible for me, thank god. It just would work a little easier if your hair is thicker.

For me, it takes a lot of ironing and teasing. You iron it out, pull that strand to the opposite side that it was parted, then brush it out for the top. I also use that weird bristly round brush for the sides to swoop out. And then hairspray, because my hair hates me and never stays straight for long. (Gosh, I can't explain things!)

Here's a video:

Let me know if you have more questions; I can find you a better tutorial if need be!

Ugh yeah, it's showing me as the poster even though I'm not, stupid daylight savings. x.x I reported it for a mod to look at it and somehow fix it but haven't gotten a reply.

That was my bad, I'm packing to move and other stuff right now and running behind. Sorry, all fixed now!
