A topic to disguss opera

My fave Opera is Hansel und Gretel!

O saw it on YouTube when I was 6 or 8 loll and I am in still in love with it , I never saw the opera live because in my country opera is just underrated

:(

Today I watched my fav version again of Hansel und Gretel the English version l I am usually not the biggest fan of the English productions cause I saw some clips of the Met production it’s like modernized what i am fine with but it was made to dark and just to .. weird

So I watch the production with Judith blegen (breger not sure) and she was an amazing Gretel she is so cute !
I admit, I've never seen the opera of Hansel and Gretel, and my sister Sahara is really the expert, but I will say I do love the stuff. From the age of 13-17 I was classical trained in it and I have loved it every since. My favourite aria of all time is the Magic Flute's Queen of the Night aria No.2 known as "Der Hölle Rache" for short ("Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" ("Hell's vengeance boils in my heart") for the full title). Diana Damrau of course nails this famously, but Sumi Jo doesn't do a bad job either.

My sister and I always disagree too on certain types of range. I really like young boy choirs, Sahara loathes their sound. But since I love it, Benjamin Britten turning Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream into an opera, and making Oberon a countertenor makes me gush like no other. <3 I recently saw a fantastic performance of it by Pacific Opera Victoria. (By recent I mean a couple years ago). I'm lucky enough that the opera company of my town is pretty darn good, and they host 3 operas a year. They just finished their performances of Fidelio which was Beethoven's only opera.
