The Fair Folk are said to be divided into two courts: Seelie, and Unseelie. It was a noblewoman of the kinder court who watched over a human settlement, keeping the peace between their kind by blessing the humans with gifts of good harvest and merciful winters. The benevolent creature sent her favors through those beneath her in the court, such as Naomi, a dutiful fairy. But as the years flitted by for the fae, she watched mankind come to worship and adore her ruler. Not once did they consider the creatures which toiled to deliver her blessings. Growing bitter and spiteful, Naomi chose to withhold the gifts she was instructed to bestow. She thought to hide them away and grant them herself at another time, when the villagers became desperate, making herself a hero. These blessings were stowed where she knew her leader could not look: in Unseelie territory. But they were uncovered all the same, nearly inspiring a war between the two courts before Naomi shamefully came forth. The two Seelie and Unseelie nobles who resided over the territories involved punished her in unison: the shadowy court she had wronged changed her, made her monstrous, warped her into a hideous, horned, armless serpentine thing with wicked teeth and a gravely voice. Her leader, as a mercy, set a condition to this curse. If Naomi could come to act in absolute selflessness, she would begin to revert to her fairy form. As the years followed, she regained her arms, her bell-like tune, and even her wings. But her redemption is far from finished.
