Holmes-The-Meddler

This is probably a very silly question but i've scoured the rules and help pages and can't find anything related to my question. And also i'm brand new to this site and am currently familiarizing myself with the ways things are done here. Anyway on to my question! Is it allowed to RP as canon characters from fandoms, Such as tv series' and movies? Say for example Michael Myers from the Halloween franchise, Or Spock from Star Trek. I'm very curious about this as playing canon characters and playing opposite canon characters is a big part of what i'm looking for in a RP site. That's not to say i'm not interested in original characters and stories but i do prefer to RP with fandom universes and characters. Also fandom OC's. I do love fandom OC's. Anyway, that is my question. Thanks in advance to anyone who answers! :)

As long as you don't claim the characters as your own, it should be fine.
There are some creators who ask people not to, but it's generally an accepted practice. Some folks here exclusively play as canon characters, even. It's just RPing as real people (who aren't at least distant historical figures by now) that's a real no-go.
That being said, it's generally a good idea to check whether that author is ok with people using their characters. Many authors are ok with this, but some are not. Examples are Anna Rice, Raymond Feist and George R.R. Martin, all of whom don't approve of fanfiction of their work.

Thanks for the answers guys. And although i was really just wondering about it in relation to this website it's interesting to hear about Anne Rice and George R.R. Martin. I'm pretty surprised to hear about that. I completely understand about the real people thing though. I've always been uncomfortable with that idea anyway. Anywho thanks again. :)

Thanks for clarifying. Looking back at my post... I really wasn't clear on that. ^^;

Now all that said, some particular RPs on the site may ask people to not use canon characters - or to ONLY use canon characters. :) Just check with your RP partners as you get started :)
