Lucy Barrow (played by Cascat)

Lucy was working past closing time, though that wasn’t unusual. Tomorrow was the 88th birthday of one of her oldest and most loyal customers and she'd promised him a cake. In the usual rush that came in the morning, Lucy had forgotten until now. Pausing to swipe a strand of flour dusted hair out of her eyes, the lights went out. She froze, spatula in one hand. Then she started to move carefully, feeling her way like a blind man to the light switch. Pressing it a few times, nothing happened. Damn it. Where had she left her phone?

Somewhere by the mixing bowl. Lucy felt around again until her fingers grasped a familiar flat rectangle. Turning it on, she dialed the number of the only person she could always count on, the only one crazy man enough to probably still be awake.

The phone rang once, twice, then his voice on the other end. It was instantly reassuring. "Hey." Lucy felt better already. "The lights went out in the bakery and I can't get them back on. I don't want the milk to go bad or anything." She paused, guilt suddenly tugging at her. "I’m sorry if I woke you. I know it's alot to ask but I wouldn't call if it wasn't important."
Jameson McCarthy (played by LadyLaz)

James lifted a short glass filled with amber liquid to his lips. The bourbon was smooth as it went down his throat, and he could instantly feel it begin to warm his body. His eyes returned to the book that sat on his lap, but before he could begin to read the words, he heard his phone buzz against the wood on the table beside him. He grabbed it quickly. It was late, and that typically meant that whoever was calling needed more than just a chat. He looked at the lit screen, it was Lucy.

"Hey, Lucy" he said, answering the phone. A smile tugged as the edges of his lips, she was at the bakery of course. The only woman crazy enough to still be baking at this hour.

"Of course, I'll be right there," he told her before saying goodbye and hanging up the phone. He set his empty glass on the table and stood before quickly putting on a jacket and grabbing his keys. The bakery was a short distance from his house, as was everything in the small town. He arrived quickly, and walked inside the building, locking the door behind him out of habit.

"Lucy?" he called

The only light in the bakery was a soft glow from the moonlight coming through the windows.
