Yes, that works. The double parenthesis will only work for a complete OOC post. Anything added after the parenthesis will nullify the OOC function.
One can alternatively use the 'collapse' code to hide text...
[ collapse= write viewable text here ] write hidden text here [ /collapse ]
(without the spaces of course)

so you can hide a block of text. I usually use this when quoting a previous post so it doesn't take up a large part of my post.
