Does anyone else have characters that you’ve had for years but cannot for the life of you, build their profile?

For example, Zadicus is five years old maybe seven actually. I know him, his history, personality, complexes, everything. However, when I try to put all of that information in his profile, I draw a blank. I’m thinking that maybe there’s so much canon that typing up his backstory would be equal to writing a novel.

Any suggestions?

I have had a few characters in which it takes me absolute months to a year or more to really flesh out their information. In my head I'll know them like the back of my hand, and I can picture them doing their day to day things. Create scenarios, play their life stories, but I can't for the life of me place it on paper. It almost, and often strangely, feels as though the characters themselves don't want the rest of the world to know them as intimately as I do, and I can't convince them otherwise to just... let me write you! You know?

I always hold a close connection with all of my characters, but sometimes they're brats and won't let me write anything down. Even the basic stuff! Lol. You're definitely not alone with this problem.

I had a beautiful profile written out for David that I came up with on the fly when he was created, but he got zombied. I re-created him, but couldnt remember the bio.

I do try and take the history created with characters and add it in with an edit when I find time. I think it s quite fun to do.

But yeah, I have a few I seem to use but don't have much in the bio.
I definitely have this problem, and it's the reason I only have six characters here instead of maxing out my slots, haha... Of the characters I have put on RPR, the reason my character Ghaurug only has his backstory written up to a certain point, because depending on the story he potentially lives for over a thousand years and that's a lot of history, and I don't want to forget anything when I write it up, so I just...don't. There's also Cchaaneh, whose backstory I'm actually starting to develop, but I haven't written that down either because of the intricate alien politics it involves. On top of that, I did actually start to write it up once, but my browser crashed and I lost the whole thing, which was rather demotivating.

And then there's my other, non-RPR characters that I'd love to put on here... Most of them are for fandom stuff, but I've had them forever (8 or 9 years in some cases), and if it weren't for this problem I'd love to throw up a profile for 'em and see what people think. Even my joke character, the parody-Mary Sue who is depicted in my icon, has so much stuff to her that it's intimidating (and embarrassing) to write it all down.

Yes! I came here with one thing in mind, and RPR has helped me get character profiles organised. But what I intended and what happened are two different things. My Middle Earth characters are but for a couple RPs, are a bit anachronistic. Still, I hope to flesh out all my characters eventually.
Yeah I just don't write my characters bios anymore. I know their personality, history etc, but what point for others to read it?

I feel that by putting everything about my character down on a webpage it actually takes away from the surprise of my partners when they learn about my character in IC. As I long as I can portray that character well in the RP I don't see the importance of writing an elaborate character sheet.
