I discovered the "Light" of my life. Get it? No? Okay.

What is a Light Dance?

A light dance is a form in dance (most seen in Japan) where a single individual or a group of people preform a choreographed dance with large, American glow sticks in their hands. These glow sticks may change colour, or may be a single colour. Boy groups are more commonly seen dancing in this way, but obviously women are perfectly capable of doing so as well.

The glowsticks they use are the American ones which were originally developed for signalling and emergencies. The culture ended up adopting the sticks to be used in this different and unique way.

What is the Otaku Light Dance?

Not too different from a normal light dance. However, this isn't really a form of dance: it is just referred to as a dance. Members of an audience at a performance or concert often refer to it as this.

It's where members of the audience have glowsticks and are waving them around and/or dancing with them. It's a bit of fun.

They use the same glowsticks as mentioned above.

Differences Between The Two
  • A professional light dance is choreographed and practised.
  • An Otaku Light Dance can be done by anyone.
  • An Otaku Light Dance isn't actually a dance.
  • A professional Light Dance is done as a hobby. Otaku Light Dance is for fun, on occasional.

More about the Glowsticks

These glowsticks were originally developed in America for signalling and/or emergencies. They are taller than an adults hand and are incredibly bright.

In Japan, they adored these glowsticks and now there are even shops dedicated to them. Some change colour, and there are a range of different ones that are a single colour.

Woah why did that code not work? It's correct .-.

I fixed the code~
One reason why this is kinda odd to me is that there is such a fascination with glowsticks, which is quite a common thing where I live. But then again, I suppose I’m interested in things from different cultures that are a completely normal thing to them. Anyways, thanks for sharing Static!
Although it does look quite cool...~

At least I'm not the only one who thinks it looks awesome. I've had a fascination with it for a few weeks now and honestly there's so many out there that are really well made it amazes me.

I've also thought about seeing if there are any classes I can take to learn it... So far, I haven't found anything lmao
