Ha, character name puns. Yuvithnah is the best for them.
Anyway down to business. Yuvithnah is the son of Vulvithnah. Vulvithnah Iriness Lohrel was a therianthrope, a shapeshifter confined to using the forms of animals. (Extinct or not, doesn't matter.) Vulvithnah was born to a Dragon and another therianthrope, therefore his most powerful forms were those that used things from Dragons and stuff. But he barely used those forms, due to the corrupting power and the arrogance that comes with them.
I can't actually remember what species Yu's mother was, but it doesn't matter. Yu is actually a mostly pure Dragon, with the ability to change between Dragon-Elf and Dragon. But I was thinking recently that maybe I could incorporate his father's ability into Yu's character as well. But with a catch. Yu would not be able to change into anything unless it is a reptile. (Dragons, lizards, snakes, crocodiles, DINOSAURS BABYYYYY, and others.)
If you haven't guessed, the dinosaur direction is the direction I'm most interested in, because I'm a huge dino nerd.
But the plot ideas for this are rather simple:
Yu discovers his shifting power
Loses control temporarily
Meets YC
Unlocks a few more forms
Regains control
Unlocks more diverse forms to use
Masters this power, and can begin mixing forms together, as Vulvithnah did. (Vulvithnah's favourite form was what I call the "Buzzairomba." An Elf with the features of a Buzzard, Machairodus Kabir and Black Mamba.)
When it comes to character interaction between YC and Yu (when he's just lost control) I was thinking it could be like, a recurring pet kinda thing. YC recognises Yu due to his colour and markings. (Which is another story in itself. Vul's father was a big black dragon. Vulvithnah was golden as a dragon, and Yu is black, with golden markings. Very unique, and I'm very sure no animal has markings like it.) And after Yu regains control, he thanks YC for their kindness or whatever, something like that. And it can progress from there! Maybe there could also be a bigger plot too, requiring Yu to master these powers so he can use them for something. (For this it could be the cliche "huge threat that requires a certain hero to defeat it" or something, I dunno. We'll see.)
