I have seen it in TV, it has popped up in conversations, and I have been told I should do it sometime due to my active imagination, but I have never actually played Dungeons and Dragons! I really want to because it looks so fun, but nobody I know knows how it works.
Basically what i am proposing is playing it with someone who knows a thing or two about it. I want to understand it and know the rules, please Help!

Details: Freeform, paragraphs required, one-off scene.

Same TBH...
On the same boat here I'm afraid
Hi AdoniVae!

I don't have the bandwidth to start up another new RP right now, but I have two group RPs that, while not technically Dungeons and Dragons, are similar enough to show you the basics of the game. Both are well underway, but still early enough that there is plenty of adventure left in both and another player could be worked into either.

Shotguns and Saddles is a Wild West themed game that uses a 20 sided die as its main mechanic.

Doom of the Savage Kings is using a ruleset called Whitebox Swords & Wizardry, which is essentially the same as original DnD.

If you're interested in either, PM me and we can work out character stats and how to get you introduced into the story.

I'm also a player in another game that is DnD. But you'd have to reach out to the GM (Malcolm) to see if he's accepting more players.
You know, I could lead you to a couple sites where you could write up some D&D style characters. Then me and my friend Ender can get a small campaign going for you and a few others.

Hello! I have a fair whack of experience with D&D (5th and 3.5th ed) and Pathfinder. If you have any questions, just ask me. I'm also considering running a few pathfinder games on Discord. The first run will be fairly beginner friendly!

This isn't D&D specific, but it covers the basics of how dice are used to enhance RP, which is a crucial concept for D&D https://www.rprepository.com/help/dice-primer

It might be a helpful starting place before you jump into the more complicated stuff!

Ooooh that would be fun! Excited if you let me join considering I really need to get into D&D someday.
All I can say is get yourself a Player's Handbook, Monster Manual and DM's Guide. It is played on a d20 system so it's not really very good for playing on the internet as it's too easy for people to cheat and get high stats for their characters. You could always try to find a local group who plays it and join - your comics/fantasy & sci-fi gaming shop should be able to help you with that if you have one near you. I played it at uni with some good friends I met there who had a better idea of the mechanics on it that I did.

Other than that, you might be better off creating an online forum/chat group (RPG Initiative is a good forum to get help from with forum rps) or join one with similar character classes and races to DnD. I hope this helps!
I find this resource to be valuable. This is for 5th edition which streamlines a lot of the mechanics to make it player friendly. I hope you find it useful. It requires quite a bit of reading but should give you a good idea on how things work. Getting the Player's handbook and other books are very useful but kind of costly if you are not interested in the game or realize it may not be for you.
