Hey! So, it's currently flooding where I am. It was raining so hard that I was stuck in the grocery store for 30 minutes after I had already checked out.

Upon getting home, through about a foot or so of water on the roads, I learned there's of course a flash flood warning, but also...

My basement - which has a messed up storm drain that I don't have the money to replace - is flooded. On top of that there's a roof leak in the bathroom, also which... Can't really be fixed anytime soon.

There's definitely a chance of the power going out, it goes out very easily in my neighborhood and the rain and storms are suppose to last all evening into next morning.

I could use any advice someone would like to offer up or just well wishes.
Food is not fun, you my sympathies. When my basement floods, I grab anything easily movable that I don't want damaged and bring it upstairs. I have my furniture sitting on top of bricks down there to lift it about 4 inches off the ground.

My basement has a sump pump to keep the water out. It works really well and does a great job to get the water out of my basement. It could be a good investment for the future if you really care. My basement is more of a finished living area so I really don't want any water in there.

I also bought a back up battery powered water pump in case the power goes out, I can run that and get the water outside of my home.

For clean up, there are companies that will charge quite a bit to do professional drying. I've had luck with my water using a shot vac and lots of fans. I've had it tested for mold and they haven't found any.

But yeah flood water is no fun. I'm sorry this is happening to you
As Night Cat States: a sump pump is your friend. Every hardware store for kilometres in every direction is likely sold out by now though.

Another good idea for the future is landscaping. If you pull out a shovel and adjust your land to slope away from the building the water will usually flow around your house instead of sitting next to the foundation slowly causing the soil to surpass it's water retention point.
Hey, Mercy, I hope y'all stay safe and are able to get everything figured out. *many hugs*

I'm so sorry this happened! Flooding is always awful. :( I have no experience with this myself, but I think there's been some good advice posted so far. Please be safe and take care of yourself, too. <3
Please stay safe <3 Best of luck to you, I hope it doesn't get all too expensive in the end, and that the storm passes quickly.
