This Looking For RP topic is marked as closed, meaning it is no longer seeking new players.

So, recently I've been craving survival roleplays- post-apocalypse (think nuclear fallout, not zombies), hostile alien planet, alien invasion....anything involving a little group of survivors banding together against elements really too big for them to handle.

Unfortunately, either I'm just an idiot or no one has posted anything survival-ish, because I haven't been able to find anything along those lines.

So! I'm looking to start up a roleplay! I'd honestly prefer a small group of 4-6 individuals, if possible, but if this doesn't generate enough interest I'd be willing to accept a couple of 1x1s. And if anyone does have a survival group looking for more people, do let me know and I'll check it out!!

I would prefer paragraph formatting with decently long, well-developed posts, and if anyone would like to co-GM with me, please volunteer. I often overthink things and like to have someone to bounce ideas back and forth with.
Magic 00%
No magic at all.
Technology 60%
Near future, perhaps cloning and genetic manipulation
Combat 70%
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.

Details: Freeform, paragraphs required, long-term RP partner preferred.

Awesome!! Hopefully some more people reply. If this gets enough interest I'll hold a vote for what kind of survival y'all want to do.

Yo, I've been wanting to do something like this for a while! Mind if I join?

Hell yeah, me too! Welcome aboard!
What's the sub-genre? There's a far cry difference between a typical zombie survival and Mad Max for example.
Will you be making a rule book with mechanics and perks and such?

Depends on what everyone wants to do. If y'all want more fighting, social castes, etc, we can do a nuclear fallout plot with mutated monsters and stretches of wasteland. If you guys are feeling more sci fi, we can play the parts of crew members stuck on a hostile planet waiting for rescue and trying not to get at each other's throats. It's an open concept for now, just trying to generate interested people so we can build something together.

No, the one thing I know for certain is that it won't be dice based or mechanics based, it'll be all writing. We'll make stuff up as we go- there's a chance that our characters could get maimed or die, and I'll be doing the work as a GM in that I'll make sure to control NPCs and monsters' actions, but make them as fair as possible. If your characters do something stupid they're going to get hurt, but doing something right should work most of the time.
I might be interested in the group RP (I'm pretty full on 1x1s). A nuclear fallout scenario would be okay with me.

More ideas for pondering
  • Destructive nano technology has gotten loose into the "wild". Maybe it was terrorists. Maybe it was an experiment gone horribly wrong. Either way, within the time span of about a day, it sweeps across the globe, destroying integrated circuits. Planes fall out of the sky, trains crash, communications go down, most vehicles now rely on a computer and won't start. The world is plunged back nearly a century overnight. Guns, however, still function just fine.
  • Going along with the idea of the hostile alien world... Cryogenic freezing has been perfected and we're part of a group of folks that are being sent to colonize a new world. We go to sleep and are all set up wake up in a hundred years (or however long, doesn't really matter). Wake up to the ship on fire and crash landing. How long has passed? Are we even on the target planet? Did the bulk of the colonists survive? Or just our handful of PCs?

Awesome! And I love the idea of the crashed ship and cyrogenically-frozen people being tossed out wirh no idea what's happening.

Cars from 1980 back would work BC they have little to no computer systems. That's why they would work if an EMP device was activated. That's just a hobby of mine lol. I love the second idea!!!! I'd be fine with either if everyone else is
hey i have this group with sweet little sock and it's called by the way, it's kind of what you're looking for but instead you're put in different situations, one after another, like can you survive a zombie apocolypse? check out the youtube channel danplan to get a better understanding of what i'm trying to say, i hope you decide to check it out since we are looking for people!

They certainly would. But there's not near enough 30+ year old cars to go around. Almost akin to a worldwide EMP.

Is your hobby restoring old cars? I call WelchsGrapeJuice on my TEOTWAWKI team! ;)

Anyway, seems like the second idea has a little more interest. By the way, I have no answers to the questions I posed in the prompt. noodle, if you like that one, I shall leave those up to you. :)

Will this be run on the public forums here on RPR?

Awesome :) space crash-landing it is!

Yes, it will if it's a group.

I think I'll wait just a bit to see if there's a little more interest, but I'm going to start working on a sign-up/character submitting thread as well as a character to fit it.
Not the kind of rulebook I meant. Let me show you what I'm talking about. There's an example in my new thread, but I'll save you some time and just post the rulebook here as an example.

Ah, I see.

Yes and no. I'll detail lore and put little information nodes for notable creatures and machinery, but it won't be quite so technical with HP and other stats. The character sheets will have a format, of course, and I'll make sure to detail what each character gets automatically (there will probably be 'classes'- i.e., a colonist meant to be a gardener automatically gets plant knowledge, weather knowledge, and maybe even a gardening tool or two if they grab it from the ship or salvage it, as well as a few other skills that are the player's choice). Does that make sense?
