I am going to enter a poetry contest, in hopes of getting one of my poems published online by being one of the runner-up winners at the very least and getting $100. Top prize is $2000 but I don't want to get my hopes up.
I'd like opinions on the poem first though, before I go and spend $12 to enter it into the contest and can't change anything!

Dehydrated Dandelion
Dumped seeds to the ground
from those I sprouted all around
up and up until my neck could barely hold my head
i waited for help but was lost in dread
Selfishly you left me tilted
no compassion or worry for if I wilted
only encompassed by your self inflicted affliction
trampled my stem in the wake of your addiction
Left unguided by a mother
my heart searched for a cure for hunger
the first rays so warm and bright
the pain and days only tolerable in the light
Yet the sun only grew hotter
no rain came to pour down on your daughter
thirsty for the affection from
a woman who grew me from the soil
denied me water of which I needed to avoid spoil

forced to cut my roots or whither.
