Hi all, Winter here.
So first off: This post is NOT for anyone here on the site. This is for something off the site.
Here's a laugh for you all.
So I play this online browser game called Dragon Lord. Roughly a day or two after I started playing it, I connected with a player, and IN GAME ONLY, we got married. No biggie, all is good.
Today this chick joins the group we are in, and has the audacity to ask my in game spouse to marry them. My spouse turned them down. Then my spouse PM me saying that the chick just told my spouse they'd fight me.
Mind you...I'm a lvl 48 warrior with over 800k battle rating, and this person is lvl 35 with only over 100k battle rating. And one of my skill sets, as there are four of them, is lvl 3 while they are only at lvl 1 for skill sets.
My in game spouse finds this funny. In truth, I do too. But still, it's like: It's. JUST. A. GAME.
Has anything like this happened to anyone?

Um... no? Not really. I mean not like that, but in terms of having people take a game WAAAAAY too seriously, yes. Oh boy, way more times than I can count on my fingers toes and nose hairs. Laughing it off, like you have, is really often the best way to go about it. That and distancing yourself from people who can't take a game as a game.

Wah buddy! That's just a whole hecken' lot of NOPE right there! People in MMORPG's can get weird, you never know who you're talking to and things can get complicated. One reason Kruhee here is a solo player.
Anyway, hope drama doesn't start following you around. You play to play, not play to unpack someone else's baggage.

Nah, trust me. Winter knows when to keep from people like that. I don't personally know the people I game with in my clan, but I trust them enough to assist me with dungeon runs and the like. We keep things light and fun, and I get lots of laughs which I need lately cause of my rl. But when I spot trouble, I keep FAAAAAR from it.
It's why I ended up quitting the last MMORPG game I played. Too much drama going on, with a lot of drama lama's in my guild. I said: NOPE! I'm out! And left.
once upon a time in a WoW server far far away, some trader got pissed I wouldn't trade him my sword, which wasn't anything remarkable? I guess they just liked it because it looked cool? They wanted it and said that if I didn't give it to them they'd DDoS which like... I've still yet to be DDoS'd in the 4 years since they've said this? I'm no longer playing WoW, I much prefer FFXIV, but I Keep that character active just to spite that guy.

Wow. Just...wow. The things some people will say, or in some cases do, just because they want something. Sheesh.
No but there was this one time in LOTRO where we were all making fun of Luke Skywalker for like the entire day and the world chat was just FULL of zingers and then some dude with a username of Luke_sKywalkEr reported all of us for abuse. We all got a warning and we were only talking about the actual character in Star Wars.

Wow! Seriously Selkie??? Actually I believe it. but Winter's Fury memes fit so well as a reaction. I had one of those 'head-thunking' moments today. 
Reading these reminds me of someone who had a hard time seperating their roleplaying and fictional characters from reality and their actual self. Sure there were alarm bells as we wrote in-character that we got together and betrothed to one-another, but after that they seemed to think I shouldn't write with anyone else because I was writing that with her. I found out she messaged several others she knew I was RP writing with on The One Ring site and made various statements and claims that basically said "I was hers". It explained why a few people ghosted me at the time. A few others messaged me and asked about this person. It was quite an awkward situation and a new one for me in my online experiences.
Anyway I think I told this tale before where it got even creepier and even more weird. She got a job transfer to the city I lived in and moved there and then wanted me to live with her. I did for about three months but realised she was psycho and moved out. She eventually ended up moving back to her home city but would still contact me now and then and attempt to stealthily interact with me on sites. I still suspect she is on this site.
It is critical to keep in-character make-believe playing and out of character real life communications well and truely separated. Character-to character interactions are just that 'In-Character', not real life. I have run into a hand full of people along my online RPng timeline that seem to have a problem with that concept (including a couple here on RPR) and tend to blur the lines.
Roleplaying, be it MMORPG, LARP, Tabletop, or online collaborative writing and interaction between characters, it is a way to escape reality for a time, but you have to be able to step back across the line and not blur the lines between what is said in-character and out of character.
