Hahaha. Touche! Fair enough! "Halloween sounds" is rather vague. Ok, ok...completely vague! I'm like: *scratches head* "What do I mean by that?" I'm going to edit it to be more specific.

answers

1. The sound of ocean waves.

I like them, just not when I'm near them.

2. The sound of cars driving by.

If it's a low breeze sort off driving by yes, but motors revving? No.

3. The sound of thunder

No. I have storm-anxiety, it used to be so bad I could curl up into a ball and sob, couldn't function for hours. Now I just get really anxious.

4. The sound of rainfall

When it's without thunder and lightning, yes.

5. The sound of someone doing dishes in another room

No, my dad does dishes in the morning and I'm always woken up by the sound before I'm ready to be awake.

6. The sound of someone chewing gum

Ugh no thanks.

7. The sounds of someone eating

NO.

8. Metal silverware clinking on plates.

Normal clinking is fine, but scraping/scratching ect, no.

9. The sound of metal knives being sharpened against metal.

I've never heard it.

10. The sound of harp music

It's nice.

11. The sound of bagpipe music

Ehh it gives me a headache honestly.

13. Janis Joplin's voice

Definitely like.

14. Enya and other new age music

Never heard of it.

15. ACDC (American classic rock band)

Eh I like rock but not a huge fan.

16. The sound of a single violin playing

I enjoy it, but prefer multiple.

17. The sound of people talking softly in another room while you're trying to sleep.

NO. I need silence an white noise when sleeping. I get geniniely frustrated when trying to sleep if I can hear my dad talking on the phone even queitly in the next room, or the tv at a low volume. I've thrown a pillow across my room at my halfway open door in anger many times and sent him blurry eyed text messages of 'please be quiet' and sometimes just 'quiet'

18. Wind rustling through trees

No, because of storm anxiety, wind does the same thing. .

19. Rainfall

This is a repeat question.

20. Electric guitar

It's okay but if we're talking about just a guitar, then I prefer acoustic.

21. The sound of silence

No, there has to be white noise like a fan or something on medium or high around me at all times because of my tinnitus, if there's no other sound, all I hear is very loud ringing in my ears.

22. Wind whistling

Repeat question.

24. Creepy Halloween sounds

Not really.

21. Any other sounds you want to mention that you have strong feelings about?

I don't like hearing people peeing. Nope nope. But I love the sound of a hand running over my hair.

22. Favorite musical instrument or sound?

I really enjoy acoustic guitar and general sound wise... I'd say the sound right after it rains, usually in the morning, birds chirping, dripping.

I agree!! Our street has someone that does this once a day. I roll my eyes when they do this. It's obnoxious.
This thread is accidentally showing me that some people don't know about Enya and/or Celine Dion and it genuinely confuses me lol

Eyyy let's give this a shot, shall we?

- - -

1. The sound of ocean waves

Totally like! Though cliche I do believe it's among the most calming of sounds, and it usually has the nice side effect of bringing back beachy memories. Bonus points if there's some seagull noises on the background!

2. The sound of cars driving by

Depends on the situation. At night I find it calming to realize I'm not the only one still awake, though I don't care about it much during noisier times.

3. The sound of thunder

Love! Always gives me this mighty feeling of being too damn impressed with Mother Nature sounding badass!

4. The sound of rainfall

Like, duh! Also among the most calming sounds to hear, I think.

5. The sound of someone doing dishes in another room

Indifferent, I guess, though I could definitely say dislike if it's the only noise in the house.

6. The sound of someone chewing gum

Dislike! We're not bulldogs without proper cheeks who produce badtubs of saliva! Just keep it down!

7. The sounds of someone eating

Dislike. No matter how much I like you, I will definitely feel like socking you if you munch and slurp like a bloody barbarian.

8. Metal silverware clinking on plates

Kinda like! It has this cozy and bustling restaurant vibe to it, which is nice.

9. The sound of metal scraping against metal, such two knives being sharpened against one another

Halloween'y sounding, but if it goes on for too long I will definitely get annoyed.

10. The sound of harp music

Mwah, kinda dislike. Sounds too heavenly and Lawful Holy, though if played well any instrument can be a joy to listen to.

11. The sound of bagpipe music

Likey like! I'd kill a country for folk who can play such a wicked instrument! The aesthetic, the memories of my trip to that kick-ass country.. yep, awesome!

12. Celine Dion's voice (a smooth-voiced Canadian singer whose voice seems to, nonetheless, annoy some people lol)

No feelings for or against. It's just not my kinda music, which makes it harder to focus on the voice.

13. Janis Joplin's voice (a famous, scratchy-voiced American folk singer)

Never heard of her, but I looked up a song and I really like the unique coarseness of her voice!

14. Enya and other new age music

Only listened to 'Only Time' for the meme value. If music's too depressing, it usually ain't for me.

15. AC/DC (American Australian classic rock band)

Badass band with badass songs, I love how rough and energetic the songs are, as well as some of them being downright iconic.

16. The sound of a single violin playing

Like, actually! If played well, that is..

17. The sound of people talking softly in another room while you're trying to sleep

Ah yes, the second most effective noise to listen to for a good night's rest after our Dude & Savior Bob Ross. Like, f'course!

18. Wind rustling through trees

Nature sounds are the best! Definite like regardless of where and when I'm hearing it!

19. Wind howling

Cool, but again depends on location. Having the wind beat against the windows during a grayish fall day hits differently from hearing the roar of some pseudo-tornado coming to blow some more rain into your face.

20. Electric guitar

Ohh, love it! Iconic too.

21. The sound of silence (literally, the sound of silence, not the Paul Simon song)

Mixed feelings, but mostly negative. Awkward silences and anxious silences (the ones where you can't even hear the whirring of blood in your ears) are certainly no favorites of mine, satisfied silences on the other hand can be soothing.

22. Creepy Halloween sounds (such as witches cackling, doors creaking open, etc)

Yeah, but only if they are either from a movie/game/anything recognizable or genuinely creepy and not comic'y.

23. Any other sounds you want to mention that you have strong feelings about?

Anything I can recognize from media with a nostalgic value make me ultra-happy for whatever reason, but if there's something more specific I should name I'd say synthesizers! Can't think of many instruments that sounds cooler than that.

24. Favorite musical instrument or sound?

As for instruments, I'd say three that have already been mentioned; electric guitar, bagpipe and synthesizer, with the banjo being a favorite too.. and as for sounds I can't say anything because there are so many!

- - -

That was one neat survey, Abigail! I'm prolly not gonna be very active in commenting parties to come but thanks for dropping it here. Long live, uh.. sounds! also fun fact I mainly stopped by to tell everyone that AC/DC is Australian because TRIGERRRED

Mipps

1. The sound of ocean waves.

like

2. The sound of cars driving by.

Not really... But I once lived in an apartment by a mainstreet and it didn't bother me really.

3. The sound of thunder

love

4. The sound of rainfall

love

5. The sound of someone doing dishes in another room

Indifferent; its the sound of me not having to do them.

6. The sound of someone chewing gum

Indifferent, unless its mouth open then no. But then I was raised to believe that's rude.

7. The sounds of someone eating

Indifferent; unless again, they are making sloppy mouth open sounds.

8. Metal silverware clinking on plates.

clinking? Indifferent. Screeching? Hate.

9. The sound of metal scraping against metal, such two knives being sharpened against one another.

Depends on the metal. some are painful, some are oddly soothing?

10. The sound of harp music

Like

11. The sound of bagpipe music

dislike

12. Celine Dion's voice

Like

13. Janis Joplin's voice

I had to google this one... I actually tend to like scratchy voices

14. Enya and other new age music

Love most of it

15. ACDC (American classic rock band)

love it

16. The sound of a single violin playing

love it

17. The sound of people talking softly in another room while you're trying to sleep.

Love it; its oddly soothing to me. Probably reminds me of something from my childhood.

18. Wind rustling through trees

love it

19. Wind howling

love it

20. Electric guitar

Depends on how its being used. I often like it.

21. The sound of silence (literally, the sound of silence, not the Paul Simon song)

I love it, unless I am depressed that day.

22. Creepy Halloween sounds (such as witches cackling, doors creaking open, etc)

In the context of halloween? like. In the context of randomly throughout the year in my house for no reason? That for freak me out.

23. Any other sounds you want to mention that you have strong feelings about?

The sound of a zippolighter lip opening and closing. The click is extremely soothing to me and I cannot explain why.. but only when its in my hand?

While i love the sound of water, I do not like the rhythmic 1 drop of water sound. its like chinese water torture to me.

24. Favorite musical instrument or sound?

Bass. the bassline in music is something I can feel.. and is thus my favorite part of musical sounds. equally so, powerful epic sounds or voices have the same bass effect to me.

Lol. Ok...first of all, I had never heard of a melodica, so I HAD to look up the melodica. I found this. I gotta admit, I was highly entertained. Highly entertained, I tell you. ;)

Alright people. Celine Dion. Here ya go. (It seems like I overestimated her popularity! Haha)

To save you a click, though -- she's the singer that sings "My Heart Will Go On" from the movie Titanic...which is probably her most famous song.

Hikari wrote:

13. Janis Joplin's voice (a famous, scratchy-voiced American folk singer)

Hahaha.

Ok, fair enough.

Now I don't like her voice, but here's one of her songs in case you're curious -- I kind of cringed going through and listening to some to choose one. Lol. Some people my age and a little older love the heck out of her. I just don't get it. But anyway...this is who!

That was one neat survey, Abigail! I'm prolly not gonna be very active in commenting parties to come but thanks for dropping it here. Long live, uh.. sounds! also fun fact I mainly stopped by to tell everyone that AC/DC is Australian because TRIGERRRED

Thank you....

I can't believe I accidentally annexed AC/DC on behalf of America. I didn't know they were Australian! Thanks for the correction.

"Courseness" -- that's the perfect word for it, Garnaal. For Janis Joplin's voice. Nice word choice. I'm like...idk..."scratchy?" Course, yes. That's what it is.

Aw...Only Time is somewhat depressing but Orinoco Flow is not! I guess many of her songs do have a longing quality to them, though.

Anyway. I know ppl will copy subsequent surveys instead of the original but even so...I hereby acknowledge that I stand corrected...

AC/DC = an Australian rock band.

Thanks Garnaal

love

4. The sound of rainfall

Screeching? Hate.

Lol. Good point about the context of the Halloween sounds.

That's interesting about the Zippo lighter opening-and-closing sound. I can kind of picture how that sound could be soothing. The dripping--I agree. Know what you mean about deep sounds you can feel.

Ditto on the French horns (played it for 7 years!!) and cello.

I've been listening to a band called Cigarettes After Sex on repeat a bunch too (saw them live and the singer's voice is just so fantastic).

Also recently, I've been really into listening to lofi hiphop/chillhop/jazzy beats for writing and background noise.

I like music that's can show emotion so it's not only beautiful sounds but feelings weaved through the sound or when it change's atmosphere. that's why I like fantasy because it can make you feel like in other world.

That Cigarettes After Sex song is so relaxing. :)
