Here's a bit of an explanation:
Reason #1 for this thread is because I'm doing several aspects of design for an Art Course project. One of these aspects includes, for me, character design; 3d, 2d, modeling...and me being the child I am, have decided to *make* the jacket of a YouTuber's "character" that inspired one of my OC designs. cough cough thomas sanders long story short, me and my teacher have had too many problems with Emails, Google Docs, Dropbox and pretty much any other form of communication, and she already knows about RPR because... >.> so, time-kept updates, she knows my account, and it's as easy as just providing her with a link.

TDLR: I'm keeping it here because it's easy to link back to my teacher to show dedication and skills and that i CAN do stuff I've never done before and I need a better grade so...Comment if you want, i dont really mind...

My Aim: The jacket that inspired the design. Note these images are NOT mine, simply images that I have found from google that other people have posted of the same jacket they have made.
rsz-inspiration.jpgrsz-1rsz-diuwlbfuiaadp8f.jpgThe aim is to recreate the jacket of Virgil/Thomas Sanders, which partly inspired the design of the OC used within my project. Despite the slight randomness to the design, it is simple and noticable; much like the character herself is. This jacket design also fits in with the project theme of Order & Disorder, as the patches are random, different sizes, and the 'stitches' within them have no pattern or organisation to them at all.

Thomas Sanders is an American YouTuber who does a variety of different series, along with challenges, reactions and reviews on his second channel. Virgil Sanders is a character from one of his series "Sanders Sides" in which he has split himself into six different personality traits (with perhaps more hinted at within videos): Anxiety (Virgil), Logic (Logan), Morality (Patton), Creativity (Roman), The Duke (Remus) and Deceit. Each side is a personality trait with their own name; Virgil being Thomas' anxiety 'disorder'. He is considered the "emo" or "goth" character of the series, being very angst-y and always very anxious and/or paranoid. This character is similar in personality to my own, as she herself is always very paranoid, shut off, and tries to use the fear tactic as a way to stay safe and alone. Her personality and mannerisms can be very random at periods, and very disorganised.

Phase One (1): Planning
STEP ONE (1); Sketches of the jacket. COMPLETE
This step is finished; however I currently am unable to access the photographs of these sketches. Will UPDATE this page when I do have access.

STEP TWO (2); Materials PLANNING. COMPLETE
Base(s):
  • Black "Hoodie" Jacket. A jacket that zips up, with a hood. Needs to be ALL BLACK (Zipper preferably either purple or silver.)

OPTIONAL Base(s):
  • Plain piece of purple fabric (OPTIONAL. Completely depends on if I have enough money at the end of buying the necessities of this project.)
  • Purple shoelace(s) (Again, OPTIONAL. Completely depends on if I have enough money after buying the necessities of this project.)

OPTIONAL Logo:
  • Buying the official one from the store; Won't arrive until after Christmas, so this would be for personal use than project use.
  • Dark purple fabric.
  • Black fabric paint
  • White fabric paint
  • light purple fabric paint

Patches:
  • Seven patches
    • Two on the hood
    • One on right arm
    • Two on left arm
    • One on back/right side
    • One on front left (pocket??)
  • Purple Plaid fabric.
  • THICK white thread/wool (as a substitute)

Extra(s):
  • Safety pins (to hold patches and logo in place)
  • SMALL, UNNOTICABLE BLACK THREAD

Phase Two (2): Shopping kill me
STEP ONE (1); Who With? COMPLETE
  • Two friends who are doing similar related cosplay.

STEP TWO (2); When? COMPLETE
  • Saturday 7th

STEP THREE (3); Done! COMPLETE
  • Items have been purchased!

Phase Three (3): Patches
STEP ONE (1); Cutting INCOMPLETE
  • Cut all seven patches into different sizes, roughly same shapes(ish).
  • If OPTIONAL logo is done, then cut the storm cloud logo shape out from the dark purple fabric.

STEP TWO (2); Sewing oh no INCOMPLETE
  • ONE PATCH AT A TIME!
  • Secure the patch with three to four safety pins.
  • Use small, unnoticable black thread to secure the patches down in place.
  • Then use the thick white thread OR the white wool to create that white stitch effect/pattern.
  • If the plain purple fabric is bought for the inside of the hood, only use the small black thread to secure it into it's place.

STEP THREE (3); OPTIONAL LOGO Painting INCOMPLETE
  • Sketch out the shapes.
  • Paint the shapes!
  • Sew onto the jacket using the small black thread.
  • Use the thick white thread OR wool to create same patch effect.

STEP FOUR (4); OPTIONAL Purple Shoelaces INCOMPLETE
  • Remove any laces in the hoodie ring.
  • Put the purple shoelaces into the hoodie instead.

I'm pretty sure that's it... I'm putting a lot of thought into this, especially because I've never done anything closing wise aside from cut holes into my jeans because ripped jeans are non-existent in my city.

Yep. I guess in a way this is a bit of cosplay? While I'm showing my skillset to my teacher for a better grade, cosplay has always been something I've loved to watch people do. Might find a way to incorperate this into the last day of school, since some of my friends are cosplaying too...we'll see, I suppose.
