Hey guizeees.
I have been around here and there, originally RPing on deviantArt chats, and migrated to here, and over the year I have role played, I have noticed these over powerful characters that just seem...More then impossible, but just out there and impossible. I mean, okay, perhaps one or two things that are really good at aren't bad, but when a character is 16, knowns sword-fighting better then my warrior thats like 40,000 years old, there is just something wrong with that picture. It just doesn't seem to work out... What do see or notice as Mary-Sue attributes?

UNORIGINALITY. Holy crap, I just sit in RPDream (dA chat room) for about 3 hours sometimes and not see a SINGLE original RP appear. It is all Anime, Movies, Shows, etc, and nothing interesting. I don't really care if you post a Fan RP, just as long as you aren't DOING IT ALL THE TIME. I mean ,I always try for something interesting, like ... okay top of my head, bear with me, but a evil , super powerful being comes back after being cast away, and is starting to raise a deity that could destroy the world, and your characters have to put aside differences and try and collect and destory the items the being needs before it can use them, and then in the end kill it. I mean okay, not good, but better then 'Bleach' being posted day after day after day. I try to avoid Fan RP's all together, unless I see someone posting a fan RP I rather would like, per say, like The Mortal Instruments, then I have an interest and my ask. Another thing I have notice is, Unoriginal or orignial, everyone wants romance, EVERYONE. I mean honestly...Can someone not have a good, old friendship RP? Me and a friend have been doing one for almost a year now , a month or two under, and its just my character, who is older, and hers, who is a big younger, and still both being raised but parents sharing a sisterly-bond, but not making out and kissing and shit. They are just GOOD FRIENDS, not GIRLFRIENDS. I mean, almost EVERY RP i run into has a character either trying to get into mines pants, or butter them up into a kiss. I mean ugh, people, try and keep it in your pants. When I ask for Action/Adventure/Fantasy/Medieval, thats is what i want, not Action/Adventure/Sex/Romance/Fantasy/Adventure/Perhaps-Pedophilia (since all my characters are about 20+ and all i encounter mostly are 16-18). People, romance is now unoriginal, TRY SOMETIHNG ELSE. I don't MIND Rom acne- If i am asking for it, but if my offer doesn't Say ROMANCE then do NOT do it.

That concludes my rant :)

Let's tone down the swearing on the public forums a bit please.

Romance is a common thread in just about every human life on the face of the planet -- probably most mammal life, really. It doesn't strike me as strange that it shows up in the lives of just about every RP character, too.

My feeling on most RP is that the majority doesn't appeal to me, and that's fine so long as I don't have to participate and the people who are participating are having fun. It's when I've set up a thoroughly original setting to play in, and someone wants to come along and play mickey mouse in my medieval castle that I really get bugged.
I partially agree with you, Frieda, about romance being overdone. But I don't think it's so much 'unoriginal' as it is annoying when that's the top priority right from the start. Romance is never a high priority when I RP but I'm never one to say no to a romance if it develops at realistic pace (for the situation, I mean. Some move faster than others blah blah blah) and doesn't overshadow the plot or start to push other characters out of the RP. There's nothing worse than being left out of a plot because two characters are too busy being all lovey-dovey. But on the flip side, if a character is in a romance, you can't expect them to ignore their partner either. There would be a few situations here and there where they would want to be alone together. I suppose it's all about balancing!

On that note: Frieda, you sound like you might enjoy Furcadia! :P (If you haven't already!) Many, maybe even most, of the dreams (worlds/maps) are player-made creations that they thought up and built. It allows for a lot of creativity and there's a wiiiiiiide variety of places to play.

Yes, I have been in a number of RP's where that is the case. My character is pushed from the plot thanks to romance. It really is annoying...

I think I shall try it! But, I would have to ask my mother to download it, on the fact this IS her computer... I have heard good things about it so.. ;)

I don't mind romance or sex in roleplays. It's when people try to force it with no regards to chemistry that I don't like it. My character is compatible with very few people. Likely if someone comes along spouting poetry about the color of her hair and kissing her hand she's going to be about as excited as she would be to get a root canal. I like it when you take your time with a relationship.

I have been a victim almost all the time of such RP's, whether it be with my main, Male Character, or one of my few female characters, its always someone wanting to atempt romance. Taking time always helps it build up, and these people don't let that happen, I have had one RP that has taken about 9 days in real time and 2 weeks in RP time for them to even think about striking up a conversation, whereas another, It takes a mere hour and my character is in forced love...
