The Oracle, an ancient prescient and powerful mage, has fallen ill. For aeons she has watched and guided the history of the world with her prophecies and subtle machinations, her actions and words, no matter how small, often have deep implications; whether it is to bring an empire to its knees or ensure a genocidal tyrant is never born or some other unknowable goal.
But now her ability to perceive the future - The Sight- has slipped from her control and The Oracle's mind burns with images and whispers of things yet to come. The visions come without warning and overwhelm her and it is feared that without some way to bring them back under control they will drive the ancient being to insanity and burn out her mind... and eventually kill her. Without her influence the vagaries of chance and mortal ignorance will be the guiding force of history... and who knows what end that will bring?
For Oracle has striven to prevent a future she refers to only as 'That Which Must Not Be'. No one knows the details of this dire future, but it is known that if it were to come to pass then all things, not just in this world but in all worlds, would fall to the Corruption... and die.
Thus the Oracle's Acolytes, desperate to cure their mistress, have called upon not just the King of their nation but the leaders of all nations and upon all wandering adventurers and travellers to seek out a way to heal The Oracle and restore her control of her visions. Oracle herself has begun travelling abroad in the land for the first time in centuries in an effort to find a cure... but the visions grow worse and more frequent...
Time is running out.
