Long ago, there existed a race of human-like creatures that fed on the blood of others to survive. These 'vampires' were as powerful as they were frightening; possessing abilities that completely trumped the capabilities of all known types of magic. Virtually unkillable and with seemingly infinite numbers, the vampires ruled over the kingdoms and countries of the world, filling the lands and the people with fear and despair in the face of their overwhelming might.
But one day, a young man, tired of bending to the will of monsters, decided to formulate a solution. He developed a type of magic that could counteract the bloodsuckers' unique Blood Magic, and quickly spread it between the kingdoms. Seeing the white energy as a miracle from God and the man as a deity himself, that which would become the vampires downfall was given the name "Holy Magic".
Once the rulers of each kingdom were made aware of the existence of Holy Magic, they formed a temporary truce and united against the vampires, determined to rid the world of a threat that could very well destroy them all on a whim.
Thus the Holy War began.
Named after the very weapon the kingdoms employed, the Holy War spanned just three short years. At first the vampires were relentless, slaughtering villages and devouring entire countries that would dare to oppose them, but once the organization now widely-known as the Inquisition began producing their fabled Holy Knights to fight in the war, the tide turned tremendously. Powerless against the Holy Knights' numbers and magic, the vampires quickly fell one by one until they were eradicated completely. Peace had been won for humanity, and the alliance that had been formed due to the war was maintained for years to come.
That was two-hundred years ago.
Now, the peace that had lasted for so long has become fragile, with talks of war breaking out over territory and power. The vampires' reign of terror has become but a fading memory, with many people not even aware of the fact that they once existed, and the horrors that they brought unto the world.
However, even fewer are aware that the vampires are not completely gone. One remains alive to this day.
Young Estella was only seven years old when the Holy War first began, and was kept from the frontlines by her mother and father - vampires that believed in peace between the two races. As children, they were nearly killed by wild animals while weakened from having not fed on blood, only to be rescued by a group of adventurers. The humans quickly discovered their vampiric heritage, but still nursed them regardless.
The kindness they were shown by the humans contradicted that which they were taught by their people - that they were the true monsters who would gladly kill them simply for being a superior race. They feared the vampires' power and thus sought to destroy it before it destroyed them first.
From there they maintained a pacifistic lifestyle despite their heritage, and raised their only daughter to be the same. However, once the Holy War began they knew that their dreams of peace would be more impossible than it had ever been, and resolved themselves to fight in order to keep their daughter from having to. That is, until they were killed themselves.
Estella bore witness to the capturing and public execution of her parents along with eight other vampires. It was an attempt by the humans to demoralize their enemy and draw out those that remained hiding in their kingdoms and villages. As she watched their heads be lopped off by a Holy Knight, a deep rage burst from inside her, and she went on a rampage. Single-handedly, she slaughtered the entire town - civilians included. By the time reinforcements from another kingdom arrived, it was to a sea of blood and entrails; corpses and appendages strewn about the city streets in a sickening display. And at the center of it all was an eight-year-old girl, bathed in red and staring into the sky with an empty gaze. As she turned to them, however, the last sight they were greeted with was her eyes of crimson despair.
It took eight platoons of Holy Knights the size of small towns to finally defeat the girl. However, instead of killing her outright, the alliance leaders saw her potential as a war weapon and had her captured alive. She was taken to an underground dungeon far from any civilization and imprisoned using the most powerful seals of the time, all imbued with Holy Magic. Two centuries passed in that dark hole, all alone and with no hope of rescue. Not even aware that the rest of her people had been slaughtered, she waited and waited in silence and the numb pain of the blessed chains that bound her.
That is, until someone entered the dungeon.
Whether it was a brave adventurer, a wayward traveler, or simply a curious passerby, you braved the unknown of the dark cavern, venturing deeper and deeper until you stumbled across the room that had been Estella's tomb for over two centuries. Finally feeling a spark of hope ignite within her, the girl begged to be released from her shackles, promising to serve you for the rest of her existence if need be.
And whether it was out of goodwill or the promise of an eternal slave, that was exactly what you did.
After discovering her vampiric heritage, it is now up to you to keep Estella's secret safe from those that would try to harm her while avoiding the watchful eye of the Inquisition, as well as those that imprisoned her in the first place.
Either as a slave or a friend, perhaps the bridge to peace between vampires and humans that her parents gave their lives for starts here. -
Such an innocent girl forced to live a cruel and lonely life. She now depends on you for her survival. Can you protect and care for this young vampire who just wants to live in peace?
