Once you are born, you are immediately proclaimed property of the land. Well, everything changes once the land is invaded by the Mauve territory, taking all of the kids as their servants. They invade many years after your birth, giving you the choice, work as a slave or join the army. If you work as a slave, you get to see the king, if in the army, then you get strategy to overthrow the king. Will we in or die trying?
