Sorry about having put these in the wrong spot before. These are trainers I hope come in handy as random trainers to battle along the way, especially if you don't feel like RPing both sides of a battle. But if you still want to RP with them, that's cool, too!

In addition to the normal character information, I'm including a "Challenge Rating" for these. A loose idea of the ratings are as follows:
  • Low: Youngsters, Preschoolers, early-game rivals
  • Mid: Most type specialists, Rising Stars, early Ace Trainers, Rivals
  • High: Gym leaders, Ace Trainers, Veterans, Core story NPCs, post-game Rivals
  • Master: E4 members, Battle Frontier/Battle Chateau trainers, League Champions
  • BEASTMODE: Post-game challenge trainers (*cough, cough* Red),
    World Tournament competitive trainers

If you want to add an element of chance to these battles, use d20s to determine success of actions. Roll for the attacking pokemon and the defending pokemon, and the higher roll succeeds. So if the attacker got a 10 and the defender got a 12, the attack would fail. And since these aren't a set-in-stone type of rules, you'd decide what that meant yourself. Maybe the attack missed. Maybe it was just ineffective and barely left a scratch. Entirely up to you.

For an added challenge, include the Challenge Ratings in the roll. Low challenge trainers have a disadvantage due to inexperience, so subract 1 from their roll. Mid-challenge have no advantage or disadvantage. High-challenge add 1 due to talent and/or experience. Master add 2 for experience. And BEASTMODE trainers add 3 because they're meant to punish all challengers.

Feel free to add trainers to the list!

Wort Newgate
Challenge rating: Mid to High

Home area: Foothills between Kanto and Johto

Age: 26
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 186 lbs

Appearance: Tall, pale and toughened from years of travel and hard work. Faded pink scars cover most of his left side, and other minor and major scars mark his arms and legs. Tends to look bored or stern by default, but carries a mischievous spark when he smiles. His eyes are dark, his once-dark hair faded early, and he watches his surroundings with intense care.

Personality: Careful and often lost in thought. Not particularly gregarious, but laid-back and amiable enough. Casually snippy when annoyed. Cold and distant when angered, though a vicious fire burns within. Grudge-bearing, when he sees fit, though you'd really have to earn it...

Goals: Looking for inspiration and people-training some of the baby 'mon.

Likes: writing, training pokemon (battles and pokeathelons), battling, friendly teasing, great dialogue, odd beauty
Dislikes: anger, babysitting people (especially those that should be able to care for themselves), talking too much
Hates: uncontrolled flame, neglect, extortion, abuses
Wary of: fame, legends, words said in anger

Pokémon on hand: Jyden (Typhlosion), Marik (Azumarill), Ponpo (Nuzleaf), Reaper (Ampharos), Optimus (Dratini),

Biography: A pokemon-sitter, or daycare rancher by trade. Wort occasionally travels, leaving some of his more trusted pokemon behind to run the place. This time, he's left a trusted associate behind instead... Or rather, the trusted associate kicked him out and sent him traveling for a bit. He's not to come back until he's treked through a new region and brought souvenirs to prove it.

Pokémon:

Jyden | Typhlosion | Careful
Blaze
Flamethrower | Flame Burst | Solar Beam | Rollout

Loyal and protective; prefers a no-nonsense approach to life. Wary of others, even after all these years. Tolerates them, for the most part. Vicious, powerful, and tends towards ranged battles. Uses Rollout for mobility and evasion.

Marik | Azumarill | Calm
Thick Fat
Surf | Dive | Ice Beam | Rain Dance

Round, shaped like a very relaxed friend. So chill, he carries a wave incense to help others relax. Defensive, technical battler.

Ponpo | Nuzleaf | Naughty
Chlorophyll
Sunny Day | Sucker Punch | Razor Wind | Power Swap

Plays rough but isn't malicious. Ponpo is a tricky support battler.

Reaper | Ampharos | Docile
Static
Charge Beam | Light Screen | Power Gem | Signal Beam

With wisdom to spare and happy to share, Reaper is a go-to battle 'mon. Almost as experienced as Jy, but maintains a gentler temperment. Tends to remain stationary, taking more advantage of terrain and range.

Optimus | Dratini | Hardy
Marvel Scale
Dragon Rush | Safeguard | Iron Tail | Waterfall

This tiny dragon lives to protect the happiness of others. He's pretty gentle until riled, and even then tries to minimize collateral. Optimus is inexperienced in formal battles, but prefers to buff his team and press a strong offensive.
Young Ace Trainer V
Challenge rating: Mid

Home area: Sinnoh

Age: 15
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 123 lbs

Appearance: Petite, pretty teen who dresses semi-formally with vests of lavender, black, or dark blue. Has a stern, unfriendly look and carries herself like someone with authority. Long brown curls with streaks of honey that frame her heart-shaped face. Her full-lipped mouth is typicallly set in a slight frown.

Personality: Proud, serious, and often rude. Taciturn and somewhat standoffish. Cynical and exceedingly stubborn, with a hair-trigger temper. Less scathing if she comes to respect you, and that's an endeavor few should attempt. Loyal and protective of those she's close to and has a strong sense of duty.

Goals: Getting her team strong enough to shrug off any attack.

Likes: crushing victories, scathingly clever banter, cute pokemon, tough pokemon, dogs, integrity, loyalty, intelligence
Dislikes: extortion, cats, overly zealous rivals, weaselly people
Hates: babysitting, talking too much, neglect, those who lack integrity, stupidity
Wary of: legends, shady deals, backstreet gangs

Pokémon on hand: Tulio (Grotle), L'il Red (Staravia), Gabbro (Graveler), N'dina (Luxio), Kaz (Kadabra), Tea (Mienfoo)

Biography: Vera set out from Sinnoh halfway through her first league challenge because she "needed a change of pace." That she'd been turned away from the Hearthome gym (for the improper number of badges) may have had something to do with it... Currently she's wandering Spica to train her team. Probably with the intent of kicking down the doors in Hearthome and demanding their wretched leader fight her.

Pokémon:

Tulio | Grotle | Hardy
Overgrow
Bite | Razor Leaf | Mega Drain | Curse

Sturdy and eager, but clever as well. V's starter and de facto team lead. Favors a tanky battle style, buffing his defense and attack at cost of speed and evasion.

L'il Red | Staravia | Bold
Intimidate
Whirlwind | Aerial Ace | Endeavor | Quick Attack

Intense and vicious. Prefers a fast-action, evasive, attack-heavy battle. Likes to cut it close to opponents, relying on her agility and speed to minimize injury.

Gabbro | Graveler | Lonely
Sturdy
Rollout | Magnitude | Stealth Rock | Rock Climb

Tough, but oddly gentle. Socially awkward. Favors a heavy-hitting battle where he sets the field and proceeds to roll over the opposition.

N'dina | Luxio | Hasty
Rivalry
Charge | Bite | Roar | Charge Beam

Quick with snark, and observes others carefully. Not particularly strong and certainly not that tough, but quick and precise with her attacks. If only she put more effort into strategy.

Kaz | Kadabra | Adamant
Synchronize
Confusion | Shadow Ball | Disable | Toxic

Recieved in a trade. Kaz has trust issues and often doubts his place on the team, but is a loyal and zealous battler. He's clever and flings powerful moves supplemented with crippling status effects. Honestly, one of the best battlers on the team and V's go-to pokemon if Tulio isn't suited for a fight.

Tea | Mienfoo | Adamant
Regenerator
Quick Guard | U-Turn | Reversal | Facade

Tea was a stray that only recently joined the team. He has no pokeball and follows V with little question. No one's sure why and he won't say. Treats battle commands as suggestions, but follows the spirit of them. Most times. Tough, technical fighter who prefers an evasive approach to a fight. Constantly on the move, even when holding ground. A little reckless when it comes to taking damage, though...
