Horses
Horses are extremely valuable assets, providing the only means of fast transportation beyond the rail roads. Whilst the Heartland Gang camp has its own small herd of riding horses for general usage and a pair of shire horses for heavy wagon pulling, certain individuals may have a horse of their own.
Whether bought or stolen, the available horse breeds are as follows:
Tennessee Walker
Price: $40 - 100
Height: 1.5 - 1.75m
The Tennessee walker is one of the more commonly-seen breeds, displaying above-average speed at the slight cost of stamina. They are desirable among bounty hunters and thieves as a reliable means of chase and escape, and make for loyal companions when properly bonded with.
Arabian
Price: £120 - 300
Height: 1.4 - 1.6m
The Arabian is arguably the most sought-after breed, easily recognisable for its unique head shape and elegant gait. It is able to maintain remarkable speed across good distances, and fetches a high price amongst the marketplace.
Dutch Warmblood
Price: $30 - 90
Height: 1.5 - 1.7m
The Dutch warmblood is a taller breed commonly used in hunting due to its sturdy temperament and poise. Examples of this breed often display great stamina as opposed to its more average speed.
Appaloosa
Price: $50 - 150
Height: 1.4 - 1.6m
The Appaloosa is an easily recognisable breed renowned for it's unique, dappled coat. They are desirable for their stamina and respectable speed capabilities, and are often the trademark of any 'upper-class' bounty hunter.
Mustang
Price: $15 - 50
Height: 1.3 - 1.5m
The mustang is the feral descendant of the domesticated horses originally brought to the States by the Spanish. Though sturdy and loyal when properly bonded with, they are often deemed as undesirable due to their wild nature. They have remarkable stamina, but are not particularly fast.
Morgan
Price: $25 - 75
Height: 1.4 - 1.6m
The morgan is one of the smaller horse breeds, characterized by a refined gate and gentle temperament. They are sturdy travellers, but lack remarkable speed. They are a common companion among wanderers, with a range of attractive coats.
Turkoman
Price: $100 - 225
Height: 1.5 - 1.7m
The turkoman is an impressive breed derived from a long line of race and war horses. Displaying the remarkable traits of both ancestors, it is known for its respectable levels of both speed and stamina. It is an incredibly desirable breed, and thus fetches a fitting price on the market.
