  • Grays Harbor City formed as Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Cosmopolis, Montesano, Central Park, Junction City, Alder Grove, Melbourne, and surrounding harbor settlements fused together between the 2030s and 2050s through climate migration, port redevelopment, flood infrastructure, emergency housing, and megaregional planning.

    The coast was drowning. Insurance was leaving. Fires and landslides were pushing people around Cascadia. Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, and the Puget Sound corridors were too expensive, too congested, too politically saturated, and too fragile to absorb every disaster.

    Cascadia needed another port city that could serve as a logistics hub and a place to put workers and refugees. GHC became a city of wetland engineers, hospitals, cyberware maintenance shops, tidal turbines, fish protein plants, and data centers.

    The city feels like rain on polycarbonate awnings, moss in concrete stairwells, cargo trains screaming over multi-level bridges, river ferries groaning at dawn, and holo-ads flickering over puddles.

  • DAILY LIFE
    In GHC, people dress for anything from work to surveillance to self-expression. Due to the often-rainy and foggy weather, most clothing is both durable and waterproof with smart textiles and reflective patches or clips. Fashion is loud and expressive, with GloTats, programmable lace, fake fur, and armored pieces present across multiple aesthetics.

    The city is built around shift work, with the big industries being port and shipping logistics, climate adaptation and wetland infrastructure, healthcare, cyberware and bioware research, timber, synthetic food, fisheries, immersive media, security, education, and reputation management.

    Food is hot, portable, and multicultural, and GHC loves food carts and food trucks: smoked mushrooms, fry bread, pho, curry, tamales, shawarma, steamed buns, pierogi, noodle cups, market stews and skewers. Seafood is a major staple of the city, and the real thing is consumed as equally as vat-fish, lab-grown crab, and algae protein.

    At night, GHC turns into wet neon, good music, and somebody recording everything. Downtown has nightlife strips with nightclubs. and sensory parlors. The Heights has drag theaters and rooftop venues. Harborfront has union bars and dock pubs. Hoquiam and Parkland have private lounges, invitation-only restaurants, and executive parties.

    There is no dominant faith, political party, or culture. The city's civic religion is continuity: Will the grid survive? Will the bridges hold? Will the hospital have power?
  • CREDENTIALS
    Most people do not carry paper documents in 2080. Rather than dozens of different usernames and license types, credentials serve as the foundational trust and identity layer that ties nearly every part of modern life together.

    Credentials are a secure, unified digital identity recognized by governments, employers, banks, healthcare providers, etc and woven into a person’s stack. They authenticate who someone is across almost every legitimate system by allowing systems to request permission to verify only what they need.

    Your credentials being suspended or compromised can be catastrophic, as you may be unable to obtain services if your credentials are incomplete, suspended, or incompatible.

    HEALTHCARE
    Healthcare in GHC is excellent if you are covered. Legitimate care includes hospitals, urgent clinics, trauma centers, cyberware maintenance partners, implant rejection labs, municipal emergency medicine, elder care, disaster medicine, and university research programs.

    Less legitimate care includes stairwell clinics, back-room ripper shops, unlicensed aug installers, gang medics, black-market bioware, counterfeit firmware patches, predatory payment-plan clinics, and bodymod artists who can either save your life or ruin it permanently.
