❖ Personality ❖
Born of Nobility; his family is a member of the Libro d'Oro de Venezia; he graduated the university at Padua; and is currently a member of the Collegio Mercantile;
Stefano is a rich and powerful but does not flaunt it... he is a proud and passionate man. Often balking at military service of His Serenity because it serves his profitability in the least, he does not embody all the vices, real or flamboyant, that fit into such a role of a nobleman wearing a uniform, much less a nobleman at all. He tends to favor the common merchant and understands what it takes to become profitable. His family history proffers no stigma upon his being, and often wishes he was different than other nobles.
On the other hand, Stefano shows no fear of anyone and is unafraid to draw a dagger, or sword on anyone, which is backed up by his skill with either. He always displays a cool, calm disposition in public; but can be violent when angered. He is not beyond beating a man to death, or slapping a woman around if she fails to please him. Though, he is often kind and genteel to the cortigiana who cares for him.

❖ Hopes ❖
Change is inevitable and should be embraced. Our hopes and dreams move us to change--the way we live, react, etc. They motivate us to be a better form of ourselves and prevent our lives from being stagnant. Hopes and dreams are part of our biological makeup. Even when we have attained them, we make up a new set of them to keep us moving forward. And when we do not quite achieve, we learn from the experience and adapt and attempt a different course to do so. Hope and dreams help us to evolve... And just how scrupulous can a merchant get??
❖ History ❖
Familia Vendramin were a rich Venetian merchant family who were among the case nuove or "new houses" who joined the patrician class when the Libro d'Oro (The Golden Book of Venetian Nobility) was opened in 1380. Andrea Vendramin served as the sole Vendramin Doge from 1476–78, at the height of Venetian power. At this period, mentions of Vendramin in various fields of business occur; Luca Vendramin (d.1527) founded a successful bank on the still-wooden Rialto Bridge with three Capelli brothers in 1507, but in his will of 1524 forbade his sons from continuing in banking (an aspect his grandson Stefano wished to alter). An early text on accounting mentions that the Vendramins' soap is so reliably good that you can buy it without inspecting it. Later they owned an important theatre.
Two main branches of the family descended from Doge Andrea, who married Maria Grimani in 1538, and had seven sons and seven daughters, of the Vendramin house. His brother Luca, grandfather of two brothers. In the first half of the sixteenth century, Gabriele Vendramin was a notable patron of artists and the owner of one of the most significant collections in Venice. The Vendramin collection was one of the marvels of Venice noted in print. Andrea Vendramin's cabinet of curiosities at San Gregorio was described in three further illustrated volumes, also at the British Library; signet rings, seals and scarabs and carved gems filled a second, while curiosities of natural history and gems and minerals filled two more.
Born 26 June 1544, Stefano Giulio Vendramin was born to Giuseppe Giovanni Vendramin and Louisa Grimani in the family palazzo in the Sestiere Cannaregio, the youngest of six; 4 boys and 2 girls.
From a rich merchant family, Stefano was formally educated in Venice by tutors until his father was able to fund his education at the University of Padua. There he would study writing, natural & mechanical philosophy, mathematics in merchant accounting, geometry, algebra, surveying, gauging, navigation, astronomy, drawing in perspective, and geography, chronology, logic and rhetoric, plus Latin, Greek, English, French and German languages. After graduating in 1563 at the age of 19, Stefano attended the Scuola Grande of San Marco from 1564 until 1568, when he graduated at age 24, and awarded the Mariegola, thus setting his, ahead of his peers...
The mariegola, from the Latin "matricula", or Rule Mother, in the Schools of Venice was the statute of the rights and duties of the aggregates. It was made up of the chapters of the original draft and the changes and additions that have taken place over the years due to declarations, declarations or proclamations. More generally, a mariegola is a book "in which the systematic laws of certain corporations of limbs and even silent places are collected", hence statutes of religious confraternities or lay associations and corporations. Regula madre consists of a codex which is preserved in the Scuole... it records the statue and purposes of the Guild. After an invocation to protecting the saints, the mar discusses the moral obligations, the prayers. The masses for the dead, the charitable works for the brothers were obligated to undertake and the various appointments and tasks assigned to them, financial questions and obligations toward the Republic and the religious authorities.
And in 1571, he was elected at age 27, into the Collegio Mercantile; as the Doge’s cabinet member for mercantile and opera... an accolade worthy of a Libra d’Oro familia. [/b]
