O’Toole’s Bathhouse
Once a modest establishment across the street from the rail stock yards, O'Toole’s Bath House now stands as a symbol of progress and public health, thanks to the vision of Jonathan A. Claridge, Esquire, a prominent board member of the Wyoming Tradesman Association (WTA).
Originally founded by an Irishman named Seamus O'Toole, the bath house provided cold and hot baths, though not without its challenges. The waters, often reused by other patrons, made for an experience far from luxurious unless you were willing to pay extra for fresh, first-use water or a private soak.
Recognizing the importance of health and cleanliness in a town plagued by the dust and filth of frontier life, Claridge spearheaded the WTA’s acquisition of the facility in the early 1870s. His vision was simple but vital: to improve public health by providing a clean, accessible space for the townspeople to bathe and maintain personal hygiene.
Under WTA management, O'Toole’s Bath House was refurbished to meet the needs of the growing community. Now, in addition to the standard cold and hot baths, a fresh supply of clean water was guaranteed for all customers... without the need for the old system of reused bathwater.
All proceeds from the facility are reinvested into maintaining and improving the bath house, ensuring it remains a vital part of Sherman's infrastructure. While some still find themselves hesitant about the prices for "fresh" water, most agree that the cleanliness and health benefits offered by O'Toole’s are well worth it.
For many in Sherman, O'Toole’s Bath House is more than just a place to wash away the day's grime; it’s a testament to the town’s shift toward improving quality of life, offering a chance for rejuvenation and a moment of respite in the midst of the rugged frontier life.

Baer's Feed Store
Owned and operated by Jonah Baer.
"Baer Street goes to show that if one is willing to work hard, the fruits of the labors will give efforts its prize."
The street was named after Jonah Wilhelm Baer for his efforts and resilience in the town growing. He now owns and operates the Feed Store and he manages the Sherman' Stockyards, while the Post Office run by his wife, Amelia.

Stockyards
Cattle holding area.... And at the end of Baer Street are the Sherman Stockyards. Unfortunately, Jonah does not own it but he is paid by the town council to manage it. Repairs are funded by the town council and the railroads jointly.
The Church of New Hope (Baptist)
“The wicked city of Sherman can, at last, boast of a Christian Church."
“The wicked city of Sherman can, at last, boast of a Christian Church."
The Church of New Hope is one denomination… God’s Children, where Presbyterian and Baptist can praise God’s name.
Methodists go on the other side of town.
But...
How many weddings and funerals will, or have, occurred in this church?
How many people worshiped in this building and are now forgotten, names only on the tombstones in the churchyard?
What types of people worship here?
At least the builders of the building were honorable men.
