In Boston, there is a mansion that is known as Sanctuary Mansion. The young 'witch' lady has helped many common person by giving food and shelter. She blesses them with Magick as they leave for a new home or new life. She does what she can with little spells as she walks about the city. Perhaps a few dollars would float by a person who needed it or someone with the sniffles of a bad cold would receive a delayed spell of recovery. She does not interfere with the people or speak to many. They know that she is there and can help those who are poor but not those who are rich.

Now that the laws are changing, she is changing the way she runs her home. She has read up on how to use government money to upkeep her home as a religious setting like the nuns do with their monastery. Her religion is called New Wave Coterie. She only used a bit of Persuasion and Acceptance Magick to get through the red tape and a generous monthly allowance. She is now dabbling in stocks which is doing well due to her cautious use of Magick.

Serina Merriweather is now hoping to recruit new 'witches' to her religion. Witches that will do good for the city in the small ways that can go unseen.

Salem, Massachusetts, was the scene of many witch trials over 200 years ago. “Witches” died horrific deaths from ‘dunking’ into icy, fast waters until the person drowned, to hangings, to torture such as the thumb screw. Some were publicly burned at the stake one was killed by a procedure known as peine forte et dure, where increasingly heavy stones were placed on the body to compel a plea. He died without a guilty plea after several days of torture.
Soon, anyone with a ‘witchy power’ packed up what they could and left. Books and clothes were the most prized possessions then kitchen items. Beds and other furniture were left behind if they didn’t fit on the one wagon.
Some of the witchy powers were herbal healing, those who were cunning (were dexterous or crafty in the use of special resources, such as skill or knowledge in attaining an end.). Anyone who was able to be cured of a devastating disease was said to be a witch.
To sum it all up, anyone who can do something better than anyone else or is said to have powers to do the impossible was a witch.
A great many of the ones who left Salem and the surrounding areas ended up in Boston. Many families lived in big mansions with places to hide in. They did not mingle with other people and only one or two members of the family went to do ‘business’ such as working and shopping.
Time has passed, and the Witch Trials faded away. Then the ‘Gifted’ were targeted, and basically, history repeats itself. People were executed for being able to do the ‘impossible’ once more, and people went into hiding. Businesses began to shut down and sell food at a lower price to get some of the money back into their own pockets.
Time marched forward, and laws were changed, and people forgot about the Gifted. Life went on as people began to work. Every day, problems evolved and were solved. There was no time to reflect on the past.
Those who knew a little bit of Magick, came out of the woodwork into the city to find work and maybe a bit of Magick.
