What comes to the forefront of your thoughts when you hear the phrase "experimental literature"? Furthermore, this discussion is to spur my imagination as I am an aspiring novelist who has written since I could write. I want to hear other people's points of view in regards to the esoteric, the bizarre, and the offbeat.

Already, I'm familiar with House of Leaves, and the works of Italo Calvino.
I recommend looking into ee cummings. A writer who doesn't even capitalize his own name.

EE Cummings is neat, but I'm not much of a poetry guy. However, his "Grasshopper" poem is delightfully messy as his other similar non-conventional styles.
I feel like if you're looking at this non-controversial styles you're missing the point.

I see now that I completely misread what you said initially and for that I would like to apologize.
