Praeses

You are welcome to message me if something or somebody catches your eye, if you do please include some idea of what you'd like to play; whether that's a plot, what your character is like, or which of my characters (or character types) you'd like to see.

About Me
I've been RPing online for a few years now, mostly on discord but also on a couple forums. I also have lots of experience playing and GMing a variety of tabletop RPGs. Some of my favourite systems are Shadowrun, Call of Cthulhu, Swashbucklers of the Seven Skies, Wild Talents, and Fate.

I tend to write medieval fantasy and modern (both mundane and fantasy), though I sometimes dip into sci-fi as well. I love exploring people's worlds and meeting their characters; both OCs and canons. I've played a fair amount of genres but everyone seems to divide them up differently so I won't bother with a list. Instead I'll say I'm interested in trying most genres and I'm pretty sure I have a character or two that can interact with just about anyone... I just won't guarantee they'll get along.

Most of the characters I play are my OCs but you will find a few canon characters in the list (which is currently a work in progress).

I like to play a couple of short, low commitment games with new partners before agreeing to bigger scenes, threads, or story arcs so we can see how well we get along.

What I'm Looking For
Decent grammar and spelling - You don't have to know all the intricacies of commas or be one hundred percent typo free, but please use punctuation rather than italics to denote the difference between actions and speech and let your spellchecker help you if necessary.

Third person, past tense - That's "he/she/they wrote a post" for example.

Something to respond to - You don't have to write a wall of text but give me enough that I've got something to work with. A single sentence or exclamation is rarely enough.

Slow burn - The best relationships take time to build. I like getting to know a character over time and having past encounters to reference. Little interactions are as fun as big ones for me, sometimes even better. Having the background for it makes the reveal more satisfying for me.

Separation of In Character (IC) and Out of Character (OOC) - I play best with people who can keep IC and OOC knowledge separate. That means that even if we have spoken about something or it's on the sheet the characters don't know about it unless it's come up in game or we've stated otherwise. Similarly how one character reacts to another has nothing to do with OOC feelings. Some of my characters are mean, that doesn't mean I don't like you or that I'm angry with you. If I have a problem I'll let you know and I expect you to do the same, which brings us to:

Communication - If there is a problem with the RP let's talk about it. That's anything from being stuck on your post to having difficulty deciphering what I'm trying to get at. Tell me. I can't fix problems I don't know about and I'll never be angry over an RP ending (you don't even need to tell me why).

What I'm NOT Interested In
Assigned/Assumed Relationships - Please do not assume any relationships between my characters and yours, even if they are typically canon. I'm open to having (some types of) relationships established before the RP but they've got to be discussed on a case by case basis.

Romance - I'm ok with characters flirting or making suggestive jokes and a romantic relationship between characters may develop over time, but if romance is your primary goal we'll probably both be happier if you look elsewhere.

Sexual themes/scenes - I'm not interested in writing sex nor having it feature in a roleplay. It's fine to mention it, make suggestive jokes or have characters flirt but in the unlikely event there's anything past light petting it will be fade to black.

What I Offer
Decent grammar and spelling - I use capitals and punctuation marks. Sometimes I get it wrong (beware the wild comma) and I've been known to make typos, but by this far down the page you've probably gotten a fair idea of how I write on a technical level.

Experience - more than five years role playing online (mostly Discord and a couple of forums) and more than fifteen years playing and GMing tabletop games like DnD, Shadowrun, and Call of Cthulhu.

A variety of characters with their own traits, personalities, abilities, and history. (Many of which don't have sheets up currently but feel free to ask.)

Response times vary but tend to be within a couple of days (and real times can be arranged). I like to discuss response time expectations when planning out an RP so that everyone's on the same page.

Communication - if something happens and I can't post when expected I'll let you know. If there's a problem with the RP or if I have a question I'll contact you.

Patience - Life happens; it gets first dibs. I won't chase after you for the next post, though I do appreciate a heads up if the gap is likely to be longer than expected.

Multi-paragraph length responses - My response length depends in part on the length of my partner's post, as well as the character(s) and context. Sometimes a single paragraph seems best (fast paced interaction, for example) and sometimes the post will be quite long (establishing scenes, etc.).

Writing samples - Are available for most characters.

A little extra info:
My character sheets are vague on purpose.
I really value separation of in character and out of character knowledge and sometimes I feel like a detailed character sheet makes that harder. I'm still settling on a way to share information outside of RP that doesn't feel like I'm giving away all the fun stuff before the characters even interact and that means that the level of detail displayed on my character sheets are likely to change as I try out various methods and see what works for me.
So what can you expect to find on my character sheets?
Anything that would be easily gathered from seeing my character in a general setting. That mostly means physical traits such as appearance, and how they move or sound. If a 'regular' human can't readily perceive the trait within a few moments of interacting it may not make the sheet. If your character has non-typical senses I'll be happy to discuss what they might perceive but I may choose not to tell you why it is that way. Nothing personal.

Additionally, I may have overviews of things that might impact how well they get along with your character (such as overall personality), and context (such as profession, or social status) that might help you get a general feel for them. Don't fret if you come to a conclusion about the character and it misses the mark, I'm aware that missing information can make that stuff tricky. Surprises like that are part of the fun.

The level and type of publicly shared detail will depend on the character; some have more to hide than others.

If you have questions about any of my characters, feel free to ask. I'm happy to plan and discuss the chances of characters getting along or the sorts of scenes they play best in.

Note: I will not accept friend requests from people I haven't written with before but my messages are open.

Rave Reviews

I've been writing with Prae for a long time, and there always seems to be more creative depths to plumb with her. She writes a wide variety of characters, from stoic knights to shadowy tricksters, and since she tends to keep her cards close to her chest, what lies around the corner is always a fun surprise that I never stop looking forward to. Prae's cast are so damn likable! I quickly found myself extremely fond of each and every one of her characters. They have such fun and detailed personalities that you can't help but feel like you get to know them as friends in and of themselves. Her plots are similarly always so solidly fun and engaging, you'd regret missing out on the colorful settings, stories and interactions she brings to the table. Thanks for not just being a stellar writing partner, Prae, but a stellar friend. : ) Kind and understanding Wonderful writer - Ivyking214
