April Fools 2020 Update

I'm back on my usual schedule. Current RPs I'm in will be primary priority for me. I will start new RP as I am inspired and if I feel the chemestry between us writers in OOC seems right. Stay Safe! Stay Home!

RP Repository to me is all about Collaborative Writing Roleplays with other fine writers, character development, and telling the stories we create!
Write On Everybody!

Be Excellent to Each Other. And... Party on Dudes!

"What have they done to the earth?
What have they done to our fair sister?
Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her
Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn
And tied her with fences and dragged her down"

About Me ...
I write 3rd person with a typical word count of 100 to 400 per reply. There are some where I write more, and rarely any less. I get into RPs here in various ways and the good ones that are sustainable seem to have happened randomly. I seem to always have enough RPs to reply to with my available time.

Putting expectations on my reply schedule is a certain negative on getting an RP started between us. I don't spend 24-7 here on RPR, and the world is round so timezones are different. If it is an issue for you if you don't get a reply to a message within 24 hours, then I'm not an RP writing partner for you.

A bit of history... I started out early with some World War 2 LARP as a kid. I did tabletop D&D using the TSR 2nd edition rules, and I've also been involved in some World War 2 gaming/rp mixes Luftwaffe, Squad Leader, Battle of the Bulge, Close Combat to name a few). I have been a full-on J.R.R. Tolkien Middle Earth freak for many a year with much of my online RP experience having been set in Middle Earth starting in 1999 when the Lord of the Rings movies were being made.

My RP style is that of a collaborative writer. I consider my RPs as 'stories' (as opposed to being a 'player' playing a 'game'). I've written short stories based in my own fantasy world, historical fiction, and some fanfics based in Tolkien's Middle Earth and Glen Cook's Black Company worlds. I have been, and currently am in longterm RPs on another site and had successfully written to a close a five year mash-up RP of the two above worlds. RP and story writing is what I do as a hobby.

My original reason for signing up to this site was to get all my various characters I've created over the decades a place to live. I've also been continiously working on getting all my stories organised and archived, and will be posting some of them in the Annals of Middle Earth group as I get them edited. I figure this will be a life-long project as I have reams of notebooks I need to review and scan. I had a cabinet full of floppy discs, burned CDs, thumb drives, and such but have archived them on an external hard drive and backed it up on a cloud. Now that I'm not working or being distracted, this may actually happen!

I have come to enjoy the Modern Slice of Life sort of RPs since coming here, and have forayed into the 'old west' genre as well as getting back into some World War 2 RP again.

Feel free to ask me questions. My contact details are listed on my profile!

The Fallen
  • John Roby Wolf ~ In memory of my cousin - A Fallen Hero ~ August 23 1945 - November 20 1967 ~ I made this character as a memorial to my cousin who was Killed in Action in Vietnam. One page of the profile is dedicated to the memory and gathering of all I can on him and the battles he was in between March and November 1967
  • ~ Starlight Diva ~ In Memory of Jessica 'Raven Tinuviel' Davis ~ January 1 1970 to February 24 2019. ~
I'm in a "cheery" mood tonight. I got word that a dear friend I worked with for a time in the late 1990's and RP'd with in the 2000s has passed away after a battle with ALS/MND. We had quite deep talks back in the day and she told me of her heroin addiction as a teenager.

She said this song by Black Sabbath was spot on when it came to opiate use. She was one tough woman. Having a daughter at age thirteen, addiction, rehabilitation, single motherhood, yet always seemed to have a positive attitude and was quite an outwardly happy person. Rest in Peace Jessica 'Raven Tinuviel' Davis - January 1 1970 to February 24 2019.

I created the character Starlight Diva in honour of her. We had been involved in collaborative RP writing since 2000 after we found each other on a site called DarkStarr. Her username there was Starlightdiva, and over a few weeks there we got into a bit of an erotic orgy RP with a few others. It ended as quickly as it began, and we chatted in an OOC thread and we found out we were registered on The One Ring, a Tolkien-Middle Earth site created in the heady daze of the Lord of the Rings movie-making at the turn of the century. There, she was known as Raven Tinuviel and I was my Ranger character Halasian. We started and wrote many a Middle Earth-based RP story there. I last RP'd with her there in 2007, and I lost touch with her completely in 2009 when she quit answering emails.

It was only by chance that I got an email notification from The Land of Rohan message board we both had frequented back 'in the old days' alerting me that she had posted anew. It turned out it was her granddaughter logging into her account telling people she knew that she had died. The news kind of hit me a bit hard. It wasn't like we were close in real life or anything as we only shared the same employer for a few months. But we were close online after that and close in RP. Her characters and several of mine had some intense RP in our stories. I sent her granddaughter my condolences and shared some stories with her about our time together online. When her granddaughter asked me if I had memories and saved stories I would share, I spent some time going through my collected files. I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to RP stories, and my computers and storage drives and my long-running email address are a bit like when Gandalf went into the depths of the library archives of Gondor in the Fellowship of the Ring movie. Anyway, I found some long forgotten gems, and it got me in touch with some other co-writers that were in some of our group RPs, and some of the original threads were found on some of the sites that hadn't ceased to exist over the years. (It was good to see that our mutual friend 'Hunter' had revived one of the stories on The One Ring and is finishing it)

Starlight Diva is my way of honouring my dear friend. She is a work in progress, and I will be updating her page regularly as I have time to go over all the stories and the planned stories we had written over the years. I have based Starlight Diva's initial histories to one of the first things she ever shared with me on DarkStarr when she wanted my critique of her character bio. It was not set in any fandom and was quite detailed. She took parts of it and adapted it to her Middle Earth character, which I will be writing as one period of time in her list of outlines. I will not be roleplaying with this character though. She is strictly a shrine to my dearly departed friend and role playing partner and a place for me to write and hold to her memory. She would have loved RP Repository!

My Views on “Ghosting”
I take ghosting with several grains of salt and no amount of practice on my part will change the behaviour of others. I just move the RP in my ‘Dormant’ folder.

One of the “best” ghosting I had happen was a couple weeks of OOC to plan out an rp and they were all go right up to the day I write a starter and send it..... then silence. I wait a couple weeks and sent a short polite OOC... silence. Oh well.

In retrospect I sort of got the feeling they were just playing with me and never intended to rp. That or my writing was ‘that bad’. :D

My experience with online rp on all my old sites has been the ghosting phenomenon was rare, but there. It happened here and there. In my year and a half on RPR it’s happened in one form or another fairly regularly. I have come to chalk it up as a ‘normal’ here and factor it into the attrition ratio.

The good thing is I’ve been involved in more RP here in this time than before, It’s the old story of separating the wheat from the chaff. I have some lovely RP writing partners here and enjoy writing our stories togetyher!
There also has been a couple people where our RPs didn't work out
and I have adjusted my affected character's backstories accordingly. I don't have a hard time leaving failed RPs in the past. I just work around them if they were a part of my character's life story.

Why writing with some people didn't work out with me wasn't so much on content of their posts as it was on the way they presented them. I don't do well with reading walls of text in my inbox. Upon review those RPs, this was the issue... No capitalisation, no periods with spaces between sentences, no line breaks between paragraphs. It’s very hard to read. Also, when posts are mostly narration of actions of their character that moved time along without a chance for any interaction, it doesn’t encourage a response as they leave me with no inspiration to try and decipher the posts and come up with a replies.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .

The moral is to not get TOO involved with other writers and get TOO invested into any rp and know that all writers may bail out on the hobby at any time. Of course that doesn’t apply to the ghosts who just stop communicating and keep up their presence on the site. Common courtesy says that a word or two to end things would be proper if you’re going to still be around. It’s the polite thing to do. I’m not sure when individual feelings trumped common courtesy in social interactions but it did in the last ten years or so.

Message him already you won’t be sorry!! - LadyOfGondor
One of the first people I met here, he welcomed me to the site and, in a matter of minutes, we were already planning a RP, which had turned out great. His answers are amazing, as well as his writing, and both made him a great person to RP with :D - elenaperiwinkle
