Mental health provider keeping track of characters for personal projects and unwinding with occasional community-specific rp.

charging-animated.gifTHIS WEEK OUR BRAIN IS ON BATTERY: B

A is for "All's Normal(ish)": At level I I'm functioning at a fairly "normal" pace. People may not even realize I have a disability at all except under very specific circumstances. I may be very put-together and even be able to do a few tasks at once for short periods of time. My writing game is on-point and I'm enthusiastic in conversation.

B is for "Back-up": Maybe it doesn't seem like I'm all-in or all-there. When it does it might get interrupted by spurts of silence or complete changes in conversation. I might take longer to reply to conversations, real-time RP might be a little sloppy with typos or problems in sentence structure, and PM-based RP responses may lag by days or even a week. Trains of thought jump around and I may not remember something important I wanted to say until six hours later, in which case you may end up with a PM for something completely unimportant because I remembered I was going to say it last time we talked. I may forget things and repeat myself. Cognitive blips - missing words, losing half a sentence - are a thing.

C is for "Can't": I'm barely functioning. I may not realize I'm barely functioning and get upset at myself for not being able to come up with a response. I might disappear entirely for a few days, even a week. RP may still happen on PM but with less immediate responses or frequency, and Furc is right out. I'll try my best in any larger plots to have a built-in for why my character might be absent if it's really bad, or we could knock them out for a week, or who knows. Maybe they're visiting their aunt. I try to monitor my well-being enough that this doesn't happen suddenly, but when real-world events out of my control drain my battery, it may mean a sudden drop in functioning. PLEASE feel free to PM me when I'm away with updates on plot, characters, or even personal conversational bits like it was snail mail. When I hit this level it's incredibly isolating, so any kind of communication is highly valued even if I can't respond.

-Centipedes (Sorry centipedes)
-Personal interactions with young characters (below 20ish) outside of appropriate in-world family/community/world-building context -- young people have their spaces and I want to respect them, they're not a place for me; there's got to be a reason my older character would be hanging around without someone getting uncomfortable or calling the cops
-Participating in relationships between minors/youth - again, I'm just past the age where I'm feeling it in a casual writing environment
-Peanut butter though god I miss it
-OOC racism/sexism/homophobia/transphobia
-Bringing my work home. Nope. Nope.

Writing/Projects Policy

Because of health issues I often have very limited energy beyond what I need for work and daily living. So I might be very active in spurts and then disappear for a couple of days at a time. It isn't you! It's just my health, and unfortunately when it hits I can't give warning, so please bear with me!

RPR is a place for casual, fun, social writing, even if storylines and character backgrounds may get deep, complex, or serious. I don't mind getting into issues IC but don't have any interest in getting into push-pull, heated debate, or community politics OOC. I don't play loyalty games OOC and my characters' relationships don't have anything to do with my own thoughts on a person, though if someone makes me uncomfortable OOC I'm likely not going to be going for much one-on-one time in character or out. If I happen to build a friendship with someone I probably don't want to hear about your problems with them every time I mention their character in context.

I have independent projects - comics, games, other writing - that I'm willing to stress over and put a lot of very specific intention into in terms of message, so that isn't what I intend to do here. That doesn't mean I won't put effort into quality work or bigger plots, and I love interacting with other people's stories and characters in a meaningful way. But it does mean that I won't be pushing myself to pursue things here that make me uncomfortable, and there are some "hard no"s - like being part of non-platonic relationships with younger/minor characters - that I'm just not interested in arguing with anyone about. It doesn't mean I have anything against others doing it in the community, they just aren't something I have casual interests in even if it's something I might look at in my personal work. Relaxing is relaxing, work is work. I don't go hanging out with teenagers at the mall even though I may love working with them on the clock. Everyone needs a space to unwind, and loves, this is it.
