  • History

    Virgil has been fascinated with humans since forever, basically. He finds them interesting especially because of their resilience. Humans can survive without limbs, after losing tremendous amount of blood, and even without certain organs. Even more incredible is their social resilience. In general, these people pick their goals and ruthlessly go about realising the dream. Virgil, who often felt aimless and incapable, admired this above all.

    It wasn't easy getting to Earth. Everyone constantly tried to talk Virgil out of it-- Earth is regarded as a hostile, fruitless planet in a dead solar system. Humans aren't looked upon too kindly either. Most think of them as over emotional, pink creatures with an alarming love of violence. Still, Virgil couldn't be persuaded.

    There were very few resources for learning English on his home planet. In the end, Virgil spent a lot of time reading dictionaries and watching whatever movies he could find. After studying for nearly ten years, he was declared fluent by the only proficiency exam on the continent.

    Virgil's successful intergalactic voyage is due in part to his parents. They encouraged him to follow his dream, saying they are happy as long as he is happy. But Virgil knows they are much prouder of his younger brother, who succeeds in the sciences and doesn't have a creepy obsession for distant creatures. He often has to reassure himself that he's doing the right thing and he teally is happy.
