• Description

  A canine tall and strong, his body lithe and toned. His leathery black wings he holds high behind him, despite the way his back hunches with the burden of his people's suffering. His coat black as night, marred only marred only by the silvry markings of his family worn across his back and chest. Piercing blue eyes delve below the surface, searching the soul beneath. His rarely-seen smile reveals rows of white, dagger-like teeth. His body is scarred by numerous battles both won and lost. Though he rarely speaks, when he does, his voice is deep and rich. His pure, snowy hair shimmers in the moonlight, well-groomed despite his apparent sorrows. In his quiet way he whispers to those who might ask, "The Nemateelu are free. Let anyone try to enslave us again."

• Biography

  Born 605 years ago, Ba'al was the third child of pack alphas Mathias and Levi Nightshade. Small and rather sickly at the start, Ba'al was something of a runt. His habit of breaking pack tradition began the night of his birth, when the shaman Ombre advised the parents that the pup should be killed, to keep him from being a burden to the pack. Levi refused, and Ba'al grew up the same as most other pups.
  
  His life, though comfortable, wasn't wholly idyllic. He did not get along well with his eldest brother, Ares, who sometimes went so far as to not even acknowledge Ba'al's existence. This was problem was further complicated, as despite Ba'al sharing his mother's green eyes, he could not tap into the same "earth" element powers most green-eyes share. While rather common, this birth defect only further alienated Ba'al from the more traditionalist elements of the pack.
  
  Despite this, Ba'al persevered. He worked tirelessly to hone his combat skill as he grew older, knowing the importance his people placed on the arts of war. He struck up rivalries with another prominent pack family, in particular, their youngest son, Jareth. Ba'al and Jareth often fought one another as they grew, constantly trying to outdo one another, but as is often the case within Nemateelu packs, the rivalry, and the constant testing of one another's strength blossomed into something far more.
  
  By the time the two reached the age of 98 years, (17 by "mortal" standards) the two were best friends. It was only natural then that as the two engaged in one of their regular sparring matches mere weeks before their hundredth birthdays, Ba'al finally revealed long-hidden feelings for Jareth. While Nemateelu do not normally choose a bond-mate until they've reached their 100th birthday and come into the fullness of their immortality, Ba'al once again defied tradition. He and Jareth bonded to one another, sharing their blood and forming a strong mental connection akin to telepathy, essentially mating the two together for life.
  
  Throughout the next 500 years, Ba'al proved a capable Nemateelu leader. When he and Jareth encountered difficulties having children early on, the two devoted themselves instead to serving the pack. Ba'al made an extensive study of his people's laws and traditions and proved one of the strongest combatants in his pack. Thus, when his second-eldest brother Bishop took on the role of pack Alpha after their father Mathias was diagnosed with the plague known as "Winter Sickness," and after Levi died of the same illness, Ba'al was selected as the pack's beta.
  
  Ba'al was selected to lead the party searching for his missing nephew, Jerrico. When a dragon-deity called Vismitne ambushed the party and ultimately enslaved the pack, Ba'al wa the last to stop fighting, doing so only to spare Jareth, who finally was able to bear a son, from the agony that combat brought. Even under the dragon's tyranny, Ba'al remained defiant, even adopting the pup Sar'Quin, and the pack's young shaman apprentice, Raven, as is sons in order to protect them from the dragon's influence. When the pack finally broke free, Ba'al was among the first to make contact with the vampire called Kaed who gave the pack temporary shelter. With Bishop's mate, Lakota, suffering from a degenerative mental condition, the alpha stepped down, entrusting the pack to Ba'al instead.
  
  Now having once again migrated the pack to a new home, this time on an island housing a former slave market, Ba'al has made contact with a husky named John Fairbanks, who himself is the father of a hybrid Nemateelu pup. Ba'al is one of three responsible for running the island, and the Jackal's Rest Tavern, the main source of income for the island. He speaks for the interests of the Nemateelu, and works with hybrids, pirates, and anyone else who is interested in freeing his people from slavery, often flouting tradition in order to do so.
  
  He has also been honored to earn the title of "mother" for himself, successfully giving birth to his second bioloical son, Ashur.
  
  Overall, Ba'al is warm and friendly despite his lack of smiles. He tends to be all business unless strictly in the presence of family or very, very close friends, but those who threaten his pack will find him a force to be reckoned with, as it is not unheard of for Ba'al to put himself on the front lines of combat in order to protect those he holds dear.
