Bayless isn't a skilled trainer in the sense that one may think of when they first hear the description. Rather than being a top-notch battler, his need to travel the regions has, naturally, pitted them against many opponents, and this is the only reason his Pokémon are as tough as they are. Of course, this isn't saying very much; while he can hold up well against the weaker battlers, there's no way that he would stand a chance against the tougher ones such as ace trainers, veterans, etc. -

THE HELPERS
Fifi 
Bayless's starting Pokemon, she was obtained as a small pup from a breeder for his eleventh birthday. The bounciest and most rambunctious of the litter, she quickly caught his attention, and the deal was sealed when she bounded up to him to give him a lick on the cheek. They've been inseparable since. The strongest of his Pokemon.
She likes to smooth her head fur forward.
Farfalla
Caught as an Eevee in Kalos both to have another party member and because, let's face it, who doesn't like Eevee? Due to Bay's tendency to smother his Pokemon with affection, he evolved quickly. Having a fearless personality, he is quick to jump to protect Bayless (or anything related to Bayless) if threatened.
His tail is longer and curlier than the average Sylveon's.
Firenze 
Talonflame was caught as a Fletchling partially because Fletchling are adorable as heck, but mostly so she could fly Bay about once she was big enough. Now that he's become a breeder, she also helps keep the eggs warm. Her favorite hobby is napping, and fluffing up atop a nest while she rests is her ideal activity.
