• Personality

  Chaotic to the core, Chelae has had a rebellious streak since day one. Surprising her parents as a young child with her destructive and unpredictable nature, most of her toys became casualties and were never fixed, causing her to unleash herself on the outside world sooner rather than later. She was the school bully and the daredevil, breaking her own bones and others' with her borderline psychotic antics, and earning weekly - sometimes daily - trips to the school counselor, and later therapy.
  
  In college, she found that studying and applying herself to a field she held honest interest in helped her focus and stay calm, and somehow managed four years with little issue. She became less of a bully and began to pay more attention to the people around her, and started to make friends for the first time in her life, albeit a very minimal amount. This continued into her internship, and she became determined to put herself on a good path, and only be reckless with her personal time.
  
  When she became infected, most of that philosophy went out the window. The infection didn't affect her brain as much as it did to others', possibly because she already had an unpredictable nature, but it brought back her daredevil side in full force. Now equipped with superhuman strength and the ability to mutate her body to her will in any new and horrifying way she could imagine, she felt more at home with herself than ever before, and almost immediately resumed performing her reckless stunts. Some small loyalty to humanity remained, tethered to the few friends she's made along her journey as an infected, and she chose to keep after her desire to be "good" by keeping them alive at any cost.

• Background

  Born and raised in Surrey, England, Chelae comes from a short line of immigrants tracing their roots back to India. Her parents are both second generation, and raised her in a mish-mash of modern English culture and Indian traditions, also leading to her picking up a unique mix of accents. She attended and graduated schooling in Surrey, finding an interest in biology and genetics, and after taking a year off to travel she chose a college in the United States to pursue higher education. Her senior year, she was offered a post-grad two year paid internship with an American company and took it immediately, impressed with the benefits and pay they offered - including travel and lodging fully paid for the duration of the internship.
  
  Within the first year of the internship, the company called her "promising", "useful", and all sorts of other nice words. They sent her back to England several times, usually armed with myriad containers she wasn't allowed to open, to be delivered to other research facilities. Couldn't mail them, they said - too sensitive. She never questioned it, she was simply happy to be back home and see parts of her country that she had never seen. On the last of those trips, she was carting a locked briefcase and a stack of sealed papers from point A to point B, this time by train. Waking from a nap to find the train stopped and its passengers evacuated or killed, she became wrapped up in the true nature of her top-secret business - researching the cure to a terrifying genetic mutation making its way across the country, infecting humans one by one and transforming them.
  
  Making the attempt to escape the hell brought upon her, Chelae took the remains of her briefcase - a single syringe vial of "the cure" - and took off on foot. Before she could make it back to civilization to warn anyone of the impending danger, she encountered an Angel, a giant beast of black molded chitin and tendrils, formerly human. The Angel nearly killed her, but in its twisted way of mercy, infected her with the mutation and disappeared. She awoke inhuman, able to meld parts of her own body into the same black, slick mutation as the Angel, her eyes red as blood marking her as one of "them".
