Abilities
A cunning vampire right out of a Bram Stoker novel, Cortez is a powerful creature. Like the vampire legends of old, he can shape shift into many an animal. Dog, wolf, bird, bat. He's even dabbled with human, animal hybrid shapes. But no matter what animal shape he is in, he keeps a black and white coloration. All attempts at 'fixing' this problem have failed, so he's simply gotten used to it.
He also has the ability to mesmerize humans. It is a form of mind control, although it requires eye contact in order to be effective. He can communicate with and control animals.
Not only this, but he is a powerful necromancer. As he is often loathe to get his hands dirty himself. Instead, he raises corpses of animals or humans and forces them to do his bidding. While they are under his control, they do not decay or rot, although they do loose any and all of their free will. He can maintain quite a few creatures at one time, although too many will eventually wear on his energy.
Weaknesses
Like all vampires, Cortez must feed off blood to survive. If he goes too long without it, he will eventually grow too weak to move, and then die. Sunlight does not bother him, although it did when he was younger and he is slightly more lethargic during the day. Wounds made by silver take some time to heal, but touching silver is safe.
Holy items or holy ground alone do not hurt him, however wards or worn holy items can harm him depending on the faith of the user. Meaning, that while an atheist would not be able to keep him back with a holy object, the Pope would likely fry him to a crisp.
