  Olivier Cheliard is by all appearances a carefree man. Gold rings the brown of his eyes, and blonde hair roughly shorn hangs so far as his neck. Playfulness glints in his hazel eyes. If he is not smiling outright, one is tugging at the edges of his lips. His gaze is friendly, his manner courteous and open. A man like this surely has nothing to hide.
  
  Scraped across his armor, covered with ugly patches, are battle-scars to which Olivier would not tell their origin. The ragged bandanna tied beneath his hair he would not replace. On the inside of the right sleeve of his tunic is the emblem of his clan, a people of the Clairvoux land, from which Olivier's connection was severed.
  
  It is the circumstances surrounding this exile which his lips so guard. A shadow may pass over his face at the mention of home, some fear and trepidation catch like fire in his eyes, and Olivier will not be able to utter a word.
