• Biography

  Origins
  As a child, the young girl who became Canaan was the only survivor of a village destroyed by war in the Middle East before being found and trained by an extremely skilled mercenary named Siam, who gave her the moniker. Siam trained the young Canaan in the art of warfare, putting her through long, difficult scenarios to sharpen her skills. She came to view him as something of a father figure that she never had.
  
  Over time, it was clear that Canaan had developed a unique form of synesthesia, which allowed her to focus her senses and “share” sensory input. She uses this as something of a radar, able to discern what someone’s intentions may be based on the color they give off. Another benefit is an overall improvement in reflexes and perception, enough for her to dodge gunfire or follow a trail to break into a building. Her normally hazel colored eyes have a faint red glow when it’s in use.
  
  Canaan eventually meet Siam’s other pupil, a girl named Alphard Alshaya. The two became friends over time, having a level of mutual respect and trust. Alphard was more or less her equal at the time, despite not having synesthesia. However, a mission to jack a train and steal a briefcase containing a viral bioweapon soon ended Canaan’s relationships with Siam and Alphard. Alphard was under orders to leave no witnesses, including her fellow guns for hire. When the train was pacified, Alphard betrayed Siam and left the man fatally wounded. There was little remorse expressed on her part, instead looking to be pleased with herself. Canaan knew something was very very wrong by this point. She rushed into the train car where her 2 partners were, and saw Alphard holding a gun to Siam’s head. She disarmed her, but couldn’t bring herself to kill. Alphard escaped, leaving a distraught Canaan and a fatally wounded Siam to their own devices.
  
  The betrayal on that train deeply affected Canaan, instilling a desire for revenge that sometimes came at the expense of all else. She’s spent most of her time hunting for Alphard, and events soon brought them both to the ever-popular Chinese city of Shanghai. A related incident from sometime earlier concerning Alphard brought Canaan the acquaintance of a young photograhper named Maria Oosawa, who eventually became her closest friend. By happenstance, Maria also happened to be in Shanghai at the same time as Canaan and Alphard.
  
  Personality
  Canaan isn’t the most sociable 17 year old mercenary in the world, but she is capable of expressing kindness and human empathy; what few friendships she does have are all very deeply valued. Unfortunately, her (justifiable) desire for revenge against Alphard can very easily cloud her judgement. She’s not an evil person by any means, but like any other mercenary, Canaan is far from afraid of pulling the trigger when the time calls for it. A minor quirk of hers is a love for stuffed animals, with the reason being “they don’t have any color”. Canaan expresses a rather sharp wit at times, once telling Siam that he was light purple, the color of “not having bathed for a week”.
  
  Headcanons
  •Canaan’s supply of candy sticks is endless. We don’t know where she gets the damn things, and we’ve given up searching.
  •Her name is occassionally misspelled by others as “Cancan”. This never fails to bug her just a little bit.
  •Canaan sometimes ribs on her friends when she finds them in silly situations by telling them they’re “the color of [awkward scenario here]”. She has yet to repeat an exact shade of any color.
