• Biography

  Luella grew up in a fey village, as most fey do. Seldom did any of her people venture more than a mile away from home. After all, they could live their entire lives here, safe and sound.
  
  Well. As safe as mother nature would keep them. After all, nature takes just as much as she gives. Each person, each life, is just a part of a grand play; and when nature feels it time to take you off the stage, that is simply your fate; your role was filled.
  
  This is the attitude Luella grew up in. And goodness did she hate it. Being forced to cater to a superstition that nature would 'be your undoing' if you did not support it in any way you could... utter foolishness, if you asked her. She needed to get out of a place that believed this.
  
  And one night... she did.
  
  Long she wandered in the forest on her own, carrying nothing but a change of clothes, a blanket, and a small bit of food and water in a satchel at her side. After several weeks... she stumbled upon a road. A strange thing indeed... it had footprints resembling her own, but immensely larger. And hoof prints like a deer, but wider and heavier.
  
  Curiosity took the fey along the road, until it led her to a place beyond her imagination. A land with grass, no canopy of trees to block the sky, animals penned in wooden fences... and gigantic houses for people at least thirty times her size.
  
  These people... they lived their lives safe in these houses. No animal large enough to hunt them, and safe from the elements in their wooden and stone homes. It was amazing! And the further she walked down the road, the more of these homes she saw... and even more of these people. Walking with strange beasts with hooves and ropes, some people mounting and riding them, others using the beasts to carry large carts of all sorts of different things. These people were not slaves to nature... they made nature serve them. She couldn't believe her eyes.
  
  By the end of that day, Luella saw exactly what the road led to... a huge wall of stone, opening in an enormous gate, with people going in and out in a hurry. Left and right, footsteps all around her, Luella had to be careful. Most paid her no mind... she looked like a common butterfly at a glance, after all. But a few small children seemed to take a fancy to her. Luella would land on a young girl's finger, but when words were spoken, the fey felt fear... she couldn't speak a word of their language. And with all the commotion... Luella didn't feel safe. She flitted away, trying to find some shelter in these labyrinth of dirt and stone and roofs and walls.
  
  It was just so much to take in... that night, Luella found a crevice in the wall to make her feel safe. Slowly but surely, she learned the ways of the city. Learned where food could be found, where to stay to keep warm and safe. She had some conversations, and slowly started to learn the language of the people around her from observation and a bit of practice. She learned the names of all the different peoples that ventured through... the elves and humans and dwarves and that frequented the city. Sometimes a halfling or a gnome, sometimes a being as large as a centaur or a troll. But never another fey. Not that they didn't exist in plenty... and not that other people thought fey a strange sight. Just... her kind were not the type to enjoy the excitement of the city. If others had encountered her kind at all, it was always in the wilds, and always with tales of trickery and warnings to stay away. Fey were averse to any interaction with the outside, after all, and would often do what they could to make sure things stayed that way.
  
  This city became her home. Several months staying in the city was quite a bit of a lifetime for a fey. She'd learned so much, and became better adjusted to people every day. She never needed to take much to live... one might call her a thief, but how could anyone get mad about losing a few grains of rice here, a bite of a strawberry there? Surrounded by all of this, Luella felt like she was living the life. Sure, days got hard sometimes. But all in all, Luella felt much safer inside the city walls than at the mercy of the wilds outside of them. Yes... this is where she wanted to be.
