• Description

  There are three bottles on Meridian's belt:
  One contains a message sent from a lost sailor to his lover, as well as a souvenir of that lost sailor. His ship didn't pay the tribute to pass through her waters and unfortunately crashed on some well-placed rocks on a shoal. He sent the message using a scrap of his sun-dried clothing as paper and his own blood as ink. His bottle caught in Meridian's net. Soon, his skeleton did as well.
  The second contains a bit of sand and rocks and pure sea water. A little bit of home. She will always find her way back as long as she has her bottle.
  The third is filled with what looks like blue glass marbles and white foamy water. If she were to uncork the bottle and pour these 'marbles' into your hand, you would notice their surprisingly delicate surface. They are her trophies: souls of the sailors who've drowned in her waters.
  
  She is kind: if not for her, they would be drifting like shipwrecks against the bottoms of the ocean, lost and unknown.

• Biography

  She likes to say she is as old as the sea. But that would be a stretch of the truth. The sea is older than all of the world. Meridian was born in the sea, lives in the sea, and will die in the sea. Her whole world is the deep blue-black of the water down where no living thing passes, the flickering golden green of the near-surface, shadows of ships passing like birds in the sky.
  Meridian was born of the sea on a stormy summer night. She awoke in the froth of a crashing wave and gave her first cry as the thunder crashed. She will tell you her father is the water and her mother is the storm, and she will not be wrong.
