A short cloaked figure. The person is plain with a boyish frame. The figure's face is mannish and the voice is on the deeper end for a woman and around average for a boy on the cusp of manhood. A manhood that will never come as the mage is a woman in disguise. Notes: Mike is a woman. Mike does not want to physically become a man. Mike does want to be treated like a man because in the society Mike was raised in men were generally treated better than women. Mike does her best to pass as a man most of the time. When that is not an option she passes herself off as a nun as most people that she has met so far fear the gods enough to not harass random nuns. Mike has a daughter - said daughter lives with her wealthy father. Mike has no intention of getting back together with her daughter's father and only sees her daughter once in a great while (mostly they write each other letters to keep in touch). Mike has an unhealthy fear of horses and her half-brother Caleb seems to believe that Mike is his older brother because that what Mike has told him since he was a boy(they met when Caleb was around ten). Caleb has seen Mike naked(Mike gave reasons for 'his' not so male appearance, namely botched circumsion and the usual lie of 'magic' which explains all the things) andCaleb still believes that Mike is male(either because he is dumb or he is pretending to be dumb.)

Yes this is a real thing. Equinophobia is the fear of horses. It is often caused by a traumatic childhood event such as falling off a horse or being bitten by one. Symptoms include any or all of the following when around a horse or thinking about horses:

anxiety, feelings of terror, trembling, crying, racing heartbeat, trouble breathing, vomiting, fleeing.

In Mike's case symptoms when around a horse: anxiety, racing heartbeat, and sometimes trouble breathing.

Prolonged exposure adds: troubled breathing(if not already present), panicking, and in extreme cases crying.

When around a herd of horses: anxiety, racing heartbeat, and sometimes trouble breathing, panicking, fleeing in terror.

Being made/pushed to ride a horse: anxiety, racing heartbeat, and sometimes trouble breathing, panicking, fleeing in terror.

If not able to leave above situation add: crying and vomiting in extreme cases.

For her to ride a horse she would need to be restrained and carried on the horse like a bundle. Having her be knocked out first would help greatly.

Mike is fine with riding donkeys, mules, camels or most anything that's not a horse. Her fear also extends to ponies so they are also not a good option for her to ride. If she ever saw a zebra she might be afraid of them too.

Additionally according to Mike Zebras are a mystical magic creature that might look like stripy giraffes
and are not in any way shape or form anything like evil horses.

That she is a woman and not a young man is not commonly known as Mike tends to keep such information to herself unless outright asked and even then she may not say if she feels that it would hinder her in some way.

Mike exhibited a natural ability to conjure fire at the age of seven. She was born and rasied in a land ruled by men where women were expected to marry and care for the household. Mike's father had no sons and Mike's stepmother died when Mike was still young. Mike's birth mother had left when the girl was still an infant.

After the death of her beloved stepmother her father dressed her like a boy and signed her up as a cabin boy so she could join him in fishing as she was both too young to stay behind at home or to care for the house while her father was away as her stepmother had done. The trick worked for several years until a fellow sailor not discovered the teenage cabin boy was a cabin girl. This prompted Stacy Anchorson to send his daughter away to live the life of a nun. She would be educated there and kept safe from young sailors. Besides Mike was no good at housework as she had spent most of her childhood working on a boat.

At the convent Mike began training to become a nun. She did not care for the life of a nun, rising before dawn each morning to pray then back to bed for a few hours before the next set of prayers and if one was lucky breakfast would come before the third round of kneeling began. The girl did well enough in her classes but it was clear from the start that she was not interested in being a nun.

According to law no child sent to a nunnery or monastery could be forced to remain there once they reached the age of maturity. With this in mind Mike did not try over hard to abide by the nun's rules as she grew into womanhood. Once she was old enough Mike left the convent, taking her apprentice habit with her though it was against the rules to do so. She used the little money she had earned from working with the nuns to buy new clothes, boy's clothes.

Mike had grown used to a certain degree of freedom on the boat back when she had been a cabin boy and the convent had not taken all her freedom away. It had felt like it had at the time but once she had left it and rejoined common society her eyes were opened to just how well off she had been with the nuns and how much more freedom they had among each other compared to the common women on the outside.

The lack of freedom allotted to her outside the convent prompted Mike to revert to old habits and from that point on she chose to dress and act as much like a man as she could so she could pass as one and thus be given the privileges and freedom that came from being a man. That she had magic and could set things of fire without much effort which helped her keep people at arms length or farther.

Since she is assumed by strangers and friends alike to be a man Mike has had very bad luck in trying to have an honest romantic relationship with any man. Her temper more often than not gets her into the most trouble as she has set people's grass roofs on fire or the clothes they were wearing on fire during heated arguments. This has meant that Mike has had to move around a lot, which led to her trying her hand at adventuring.
