• Backstory

  François Souflê was born as the only child of Robspie and Mari Souflê in Clermont-Ferrand, France. His mother was a Hungarian; a devout Catholic who served the church up until her illness. His father was a french doctor and surgeon, who paid little attention to religion but often kept his beliefs to himself.
  The boy grew up in a home of moderate wealth, with Robspie earning most of the income. Despite this, François was not able to indulge in enjoyment of the material even as a child, for his mother had raised him to focus on piety. His father and mother often clashed, and both disagreed on the proper way for François to be schooled; however, in the end Robspie insisted he receive a formal education, and François was enrolled in a private institution when he was 9. In the same year, Mari fell ill; she refused treatment, even from Robspie, due to her strong beliefs. Mari was eventually rendered bedridden.
  
  During this time, François widely neglected his education to tend to his mother-- who insisted he take her place at the church. He agreed, and against his father's orders, would often not attend classes so he could fulfill his mothers duties. He considered it his calling; however, his father eventually found out, and he was sent to a boarding school for a period of 4 years. Though he was gifted intellectually, he would neglect his work, and often any attempt at discipline was ineffectual.
  He returned to Clermont-Ferrand when he was 13, and was informed by his father that Mari had passed away. François quietly lamented his mother's passing, and his father grew distant, working all day and locking himself in the cellar at night. François only comfort remained in God.
  
  He snuck into the cellar one night and found his father tinkering with a human body-- much to the boy's added horror, he discovered was Mari. Robspie explained that he was going to bring her back to 'life', to which François declared blasphemy. He attempted to flee, but was captured and locked into the cellar daily with his mother's half-alive corpse.
  Robspie gradually grew more and more obsessed with his ailing wife, and would spend most of his time in the cellar working on her. He gradually urged François to participate, showing what he knew of mechanics and surgical practices.
  
  At 16, François succeeded at fleeing the house, and he immediately was quartered in the church. By then, doubt was beginning to take form in his mind; however, he followed his path to priesthood, and spent the next 6 years studying in seminary education before going through the rite of ordination. His fixation on mechanics did not happen to taper off in this time, and he indulged in a secret habit of tinkering or the occasional invention, though they were always minor.
  Eventually, word of his father's doings was made public, to which he was tried and institutionalized. The priest had the final rites to his mothers body, which he promptly laid to rest on the churchyard grounds.
  
  Heartbroken once again, François returned his full attention to God and the community, feeling comfort in offering a kind word or charity to others. He became a popular priest in Clermont-Ferrand, and despite his distant attitude, he was eventually well loved by the public for his reputation of compassion and his devotion to easing others' suffering.

• Ongoing Story

  François currently works on improving the church, and aiding the community through a famine; tensions are rising in the 2nd and 3rd estates, and he fears something dangerous is growing as people lose the ability to adequately provide for their families. There are reports of violence and misconduct, and he grows apprehensive for the sake of the people and their well being.
  
  In his down time, he tinkers with experiments in biochemistry and biological augmentation, though has discovered nothing of note. His automaton daughter Dottie pleads with him for company, and so he works on plans for yet another animatron in the meantime.
