• History

  Riku was born to American and Japanese parents, growing up in a relatively wealthy, globe-trotting family. His father was a financial consultant, leaving his all the parenting to his wife. Eventually, Riku, his parents and his elder brother and sister settled down in Miami where Riku's father started a venture capital company.
  
  As a boy, Riku had always been enamoured by technology and gadgets. In a family with few wants, that meant that he had his own computer and internet access in his teens and a very good tutor teaching him how to use it. Riku's father knew that computers would be the future. They were... until civilization collapsed.
  
  For all his education and time working on "disrupting" modern living, the zombie apocalypse found him falling back on his less modern skills: his mother had enrolled him in various Japanese martial arts classes as he grew up, primarily sticking with kendo. Knowing how to use a blade, and having experience in polearms (naginata) too gave him a fighting chance when the walkers were many and survival was hard.
  
  The computers may have gone, but Riku is far from obsolete.
