• Description

  A magenta slime that typically takes the form of a globule, puddle, or simple form of a humanoid. It can squeeze through spaces at least 1" squared. Like most oozes, physical damage upon its form is reduced greatly and when broken apart, the body will naturally try to reform. Shoggoths cannot be killed until every piece over 1" squared is eliminated. Otherwise, the ooze will attempt to reform & regrow by absorbing organic materials.
  They are immune to mind-control spells but are highly susceptible to psionics. Immune to poison & disease with strong elemental resistance.
  
  Unlike normal slimes, the Shoggoth's body doesn't damage and absorb those who make physical contact, contradictorily, it provides a minor healing effect similar to a healing salve over 2-3 turns and minor cure to poison & disease.
  
  Being a product of genetic experimentation upon an Oblex, the Shoggoth shares similar and polar traits. Like the Oblex, Shoggoth absorbs the memories and abilities of its prey, leaving the victim with memory loss. The Shoggoth retains the memories and abilities until they are expelled. Memories, personalities, and abilities can be expelled, usually when the Shoggoth becomes overly saturated with "personas" that house these three traits.
  Where the Oblex can reproduce by excreting these "personas", the Shoggoth cannot instead it produced small pods of jelly. Shoggoth reproduces by absorbing DNA from its chosen donator, combining the DNA with a portion of its own body and a persona. This offspring gestates for 3 months as a "core" within the Shoggoth then released as the core softens to a gel consistency, becoming a new infant Shoggoth.
  
  Shoggoth jelly pods are treated as potions and can be stored in jars and vials for later use. If the surface tension is broken, the pod turns to liquid and is without the benefit after 1 turn but still provides a source of hydration. A jelly pod containing a persona will cast "Mad Prophet" upon the consumer. Provides access to persona's memories for 1d6 turns, applies chaotic regeneration (1d6 hp ever turn for 1D4 turns), and insanity for 1d6 turns.
  Jelly pods without a persona can be expelled at will, providing similar effects with the lack of access to memories and insanity is replaced by visions of madness (a brief mental images of the Far Realm) for 1d4 turns.
  
  Shoggoth possesses an intelligence equivalent of a smart goblin, far less than their Oblex progenitor. They are able to have simple telepathic conversations with individuals within the line of sight. Unlike Oblex, they cannot learn psionics and mind-control magic. However, they can learn spells/abilities from the creatures it robs of their memories. Those spells/abilities are forgotten once the persona is expelled.
  
  Shoggoth also shares unique ability that can be traced back to Juiblex, it can produce multiple eyes & mouths over its body in certain scenarios. It is unclear what benefits the eyes provide as the Shoggoth is granted Blindsight, however in this "eye form" its color darkens to black and it produces a faint smell of sulfur; the sanity of many will be questioned. Unlike other oozes, a Shoggoth has a dimensional pocket within itself. Living sentient creatures must roll a save for sanity as the interior of this pocket resembles the Far Realm.
  
  Shoggoth traditionally attacks through the use of pseudopods by slamming opponents. Unlike Oblex, they can release an acidic toxin into their bodies, enabling them to dissolve organic matter like most slimes. A toxin in the slime has a chance to cause gradually growing madness in sentient mortal beings if it escapes the ooze. Also unlike the Oblex, this is how the Shaggoth also feeds.
  
  Being plane touched by the Far Realm, many of their traits have warped and changed from their ancestors. Alignments begin as true neutral for newly born Shoggoths, soon this alignment shifts to lawful upon time spent in the material plane or chaotic within the planes or near an Illithid hive mind. Neutral alignment does not change.
  These oozes are eternally cursed to hunger as all other oozes, however, while never sated, they can show great restraint when properly fed. Each forms a unique personality.

• History

  Shay was the offspring of another Shoggoth, abandoned in the material plane in a small town. The Shoggoth was gifted with a persona from birth. This character was a lvl 1 wizard who was attacked and absorbed by the Shoggoth many years ago in a distant village. It lived off of squirrels and rats, keeping a watchful eye on the humanoids of the village. At first, it feared them, then it became fascinated by them. At one point it exposed itself to the town's leader and was chased out into the wilds.
