• Backstory

  Marco was born to Bianka Macciano in Rome, Italy from an adulterous union between her and a farmhand. He was born as a brother to Michelangelo, who disapproved of his mothers actions and encouraged her to keep Marco's existence from her husband. Unwilling to estrange herself from her current marriage, she adopted Marco out to two Russian transients named Ilya and Aleksei Ivanovich who took Marco back with them to Tver.
  Marco was renamed and grew up with his foster parents, unaware of his heritage.
  
  Marcus' (Маркус) childhood was one of strife and hardship, being stuck in a home of perpetual neglect and abuse. His family was poor and lived an unstable and self-sufficient existence that moved around from one area to another; because of this, Marcus never received any formal education.
  At a young age he first discovered he had the ability to shape-shift and practiced it unbeknownst to his parents. One year later Marcus was recruited as a Shestyorka--- he frequently was tasked with intelligence work for the underground due to his abilities, and was highly valued among his fugitive peers. He continued this without capture, networking with others from each location where possible.
  At age 11, his mother became ill with pneumonia and on her deathbed disclosed Marcus' adoption. She died shortly after and Marcus abandoned the household.
  
  Marcus, now a runaway in Moscow, continued to work within the Russian mafia for a number of years. At 12, he was finally apprehended and mistakenly sent to federal penitentiary in place of a juvenile work colony. He spent 4 years in incarceration, and was eventually promoted to Boevik due to his aggressive and often violent tendencies.
  Despite his release, Marcus found himself in and out of the prison camps for various petty crimes until he was 21--- at which point he was a feared Avtoritet.
  On a mission to plan and execute a political assassination, he was betrayed by a seed and sentenced to capital punishment. Locked in the solitary ward of Kresty prison for 2 years, Marcus made several attempted escapes, all of which failed. When the time of execution came, he was taken out to a stock with several others for public shooting; however, Marcus survived the wounds and successfully escaped.
  
  Now a wanted fugitive, Marcus boarded a ship and emigrated to America where he landed in Manhattan, New York. He was taken in by a young women named Jessie and lived with her for several years in Bronx County, learning English and American customs while he established what connections he could with the Vory. He and Jessie became extremely close in this time, forming an unconventional mother-son relationship.
  While on a long-term contract, he frequently consorted with a Taiwanese prostitute named Po-Lai and eventually formed a committed relationship with her; however, after 2 years, this ended abruptly for reasons Marcus never fully disclosed. He returned to the Bronx and remained with Jessie for 4 years afterward.
  Once financially stable, Marcus moved to a house in Manhattan at age 30 but maintained his close relationship with Jessie, who continued to visit him often.
  
  After a few promising missions with the Bratva, an advancement opportunity lead him to a job that involved displacing the head of a high-profile Italian crime family: Michaelangelo Macciano. Marcus made several attempts but was eventually almost bested by Michael himself--- Marcus revealed their relation and Mick ultimately spared his life. Marcus was forced to abandon the Vory and although he holds no distinct affiliation or rights, he remains in association with both the Bratva and the Italian Mafia, but considers himself independent.

• Ongoing Story

  Now in his early 30's, Marcus thrives on an independent and haphazard lifestyle. He is aimless, and lives day to day with no real goal, doing whatever happens to strike his fancy for the time. He is financially stable, and works contract to contract for the Russians, Italians, and occasionally independent businesses as a mixture of professions that range from contract killings, enforcement of tributes and protection money, and occasionally guarding for individual persons. He is most often employed to protect businesses from other criminal organizations and usually works alone.
  
  He remains emotionally uncommitted and estranged from his brother; however, Michael will usually offer him work due to his reliability. He keeps a good relationship with Jessie and entertains free time with a few other Russian immigrants he's befriended over the years.
  As of most recent, he's befriended a Maddilyn Asakura; though the relationship is merely sexual in nature, she and Jessie remain the only amount of consistency he allows in his life.
