• Background Information

  Thaelia was an exuberant, clever and independent-minded young child who was given very little time in her mother's care. This was due to the fact that Shiera Lannister was busy helping to run the Westerlands and to seeing to her eldest brother the heir to Casterly Rock. Though her mother was inattentive, her father was warm where he could, kindly to her though still distant due to his Lordship duties. Instead, she was given over to Maester Lyall and Septa Camila, who in time would prove to be like parents to her; nurturers who shielded her from much of her mothers more furious behaviors. Both would show to her affection and righteousness through story-telling, teachings and even in the way they behaved before her mother; offering all the right words and actions in sight, not only protect themselves but also to protect their young lioness they had both come to adore. Thaelia was everything a well-brought-up lady should be, eloquent, graceful and well spoken, but underneath she wanted more adventure and freedom which was given in small doses. Musical instruments were bestowed to her at a young age. The violin and harp were taught to her almost as ardently as were her studies in histories and language.
  
  As her name-day of ten and seven approached, she learned other lessons that would prove to be less interesting if not more affecting to the young lioness. As soon as her opinion was roared through the keep on a matter of servants, her mother's gaze turned toward her with sudden interest. Strong opinions were the domain of her mother, and that was not all that escaped her view. It was apparent to her mother that Thaelia's affections for her Septa were well beyond what she thought they should be. A lesson was devised, this time from her mother who meant to impart upon her daughter beliefs she would necessitate. As Thaelia and her Septa headed towards the stables for a leisurely ride, off to enjoy a bright blue-sky day, her mother and guards showed up unannounced. Camila was grabbed from her horse, jerked to a trough where her head was thrust into the murky water in a grip so fierce there was to be no escape. The Septa's body flailed in an attempt to break free of the hold while Thaelia screamed, demanding her release.
  
  ||||Coldly her mother moved towards her, a bright beauty that looked on her daughter like an aberration to demand /anything/ from her. “My daughter, you will learn right this moment to listen only to me...” face held stern as she moved like a shadow towards her horror-stricken daughter - held firm by another of her guards “You will /learn/ who is disposable, and that your family is /all/ that matters. Too much time have you spent with frivolous thoughts and opinions. It is time...” she began in a dramatic breath “that your lessons are given by me.” her hand lifted to stroke along her daughters tear-stained cheek, a smile peeking through at the screams her daughter gave watching her Septa die. “Do you hear me child?” gripping her chin fiercely, the last word given through gritted teeth.||||
  
  Thaelia heard her. Her head nodding at once. While wiping the tears quickly from her face she begged for her Septa's release. That came, but the Septa had already inhaled enough water that she was stricken with pneumonia for weeks close to death. Thereafter, Septa Camila was less vibrant though still loyal and loving to the spirited lioness. That was her mothers first lesson, and though it would not go as her mother might hope, it did teach her that keeping up the appearances kept her mother's eyes from landing too long upon her. From the day she almost lost her mother-like Septa, she learned to be more shrewd, hard, offering pleasant amiable smiles while cruel thoughts of her own simmered beneath the surface.
  
  Thaelia is pleasant and proper, with nothing to raise her ire she spends her time in more positive pursuits including music and education. Her own temper held in check by fear. Given a little power that could change. Her loyalties are to the family name, to the relationships she has forged with her siblings, to her Septa and Maester.
  
  Left behind when her siblings and brother who was now the Lord after her father's death went to Kings Landing, she finally received word of her own. A calling for her to leave for Kings Landing, for there was news that she had been betrothed. /Freedom/ That is how her smile might be read when she was chosen to be the daughter who would again seal the alliance with House Baratheon. This might have been a punishment of her mothers since she was the least favored child, for the man she was to marry was a scarred Knight, tortured, considered hard and stern. Not knowing what to expect, she found she cared little. All she understood that with marriage a little more power was afforded to her, something she would relish. Once she was given leave she made sure to take Septa Camila with her, hoping her new husband would take her along with her servants into his brothers household.
